Weekly payslips but monthly payments
|
Q I get paid every four weeks by bank transfer but get a weekly payslip which shows me how much I have earned that week and how much the company is keeping hold of.
I heard a rumour that if you get a weekly payslip you can get the company to pay you weekly. I enquired about this a few years ago and was told it all depended on what your terms of employment where when you started. What's the truth?
VB
A How much you get paid by your employer, and how often, is dictated by your employment contract. This doesn't have to be a written contract - it may just be the verbal agreement between you and your boss over your working pay, terms and conditions.
But even if the agreement was originally verbal, your employer should have given you a written statement of the main job terms within two months of your starting. If you don't have one, you can request one from your employer. If the pay dates aren't clarified in the contract, ask for a definitive answer.
