 Essential Job Requirements

The Consumables Product Manager?s primary responsibility is that of a media specialist, with the authority of a Product Manager, to make decisions concerning Cognitive?s consumables products.  As a Product Manager, this individual is responsible for the complete life cycle of all consumable products, and reports to the Director of Product Management.

 

The position requires the individual work full time from the Golden, Colorado facility.  This individual must have the ability to solve label and tagging problems, working directly with customers, and will be required to make presentations to customers and partners.  Travel is required both domestically and internationally. 

 Consumables Product Manager Responsibilities

The responsibility of the Consumables Product Manager is to ensure that Cognitive is offering competitive consumable products and supporting Cognitive?s organization with technical expertise, product information and training.

 

This individual must have a comprehensive knowledge of consumables within the automatic identification and marking industry. The specific responsibilities of the Consumables Product Manager are outlined in the consumables product life cycle sections below. Product Life Cycle - Consumables

All printing media products and other consumables, such as labels, tags, ribbons, print heads, and thermal cleaning supplies must be managed throughout their life cycle which includes; development, production, and end of life.Development

Development requires the Product Manager?s ability to recognize Market needs for specific products, and the ability to identify and specify those products in order to bring the products to Market.

? Generate specifications

? Estimate costs

? Calculate prices and margins

? Manage testing of materials and solutions

? Maintain products database

? Maintain materials database

? Generate custom product quotations

? Entry into Cognitive?s ERP system and media database

? Generate new product announcements and trainingProduction

Management of the production phase includes continuing the ability to manufacture the product while remaining competitive in the marketplace.  This may include, but is not limited to, material substitutions, price and cost changes, vendor changes, and process changes.  Some specific tasks required during the production phase of a product include the following:

? Adjust product costs and prices

? Substitute materials

? Select alternate vendors and/or suppliers

? Update Cognitive?s ERP system and media database

? Provide product updates and training

? Announce product changesEnd of Life

End of life management includes the ability to recognize the proper time to end a product?s life and to plan for a transition to a replacement product or complete discontinuation of that product.

? Decide to discontinue product

? Prepare plan for discontinuance

? Provide end of life training

? Update Cognitive?s ERP system and media database

? Prepare product?s end of life announcement Education Requirements

A college undergraduate degree plus a minimum of 3 to 5 years of product management experience is required. 

 

The required computer skills include proficiency at the following:

? Microsoft Excel ? generating math calculations

? Microsoft Access ? generating tables, queries, reports, and forms

? Microsoft Word - typing and writing documents

? Microsoft Outlook ? generating email with attachments, maintaining a schedule, scheduling meetings
