Director of Product Engineering

Overview:

Lead team of Product Engineers to ensure that Rackspace products are technically sound and delivered at the lowest possible total cost (technology and support) consistent with maintaining Fanatical Support

Responsibilities:

I. Assist Product Engineers in executing their duties "" Requires assisting with:
-- Devising creative technical solutions to meet product requirements Devise creative technical solutions to meet product requirements
-- Vetting vendors and technologies for fit with Rackspace needs
-- Working with Product Management to roll out products
-- Maintaining visibility into vendor roadmaps and major technological changes in areas of responsibility
II. Organize Product Engineering resources to get work done "" Requires:
-- Efficient assigning of PE"&tm;s to tasks
-- Reasonable accuracy in making timeline commitments given task complexity and group capacity
III. Provide cutting-edge thinking on how to use technology "" Requires:
-- Keeping abreast of new technology developments
-- Thinking creatively about how technologies might be applied
-- Updating group on technology developments and facilitating brainstorming sessions
IV. Leverages resources outside the group to get things done "" Requires:
-- Maintaining good relations with other departments that have technical resources
--Disaggregating problems into pieces that can be resolved by different groups

Required Skills:
Requirements:

-- Understanding of several major technology domains and the ability to think about how technology can be practically applied.
-- Bachelor"&tm;s degree, preferably in engineering or computer science
-- 5+ years experience in engineering and/or product design
-- 2+ years managing a team of engineers
