Manager, Product Quality & Compliance (Private Label & Direct Imported Goods)

At Amazon, Safety is our number one concern both for our employees and for our customers.  We are seeking candidates to fill our Manager, Product Quality and Compliance position located in Seattle.  The position will be responsible for managing all as aspects of Product Quality and Regulatory Compliance for Private Label & Direct Imported Goods offerings internationally.  

 

This person will be responsible for driving several areas in our current product safety processes to even higher levels of performance.  The primary area of responsibility will be working with our retail and legal teams to insure all Amazon.com products meet applicable product safety testing requirements.  This may include working with outside vendors such as Underwriters Laboratories Inc. to insure Amazon.com products are tested to meet specific and detailed safety guidelines.  A second area of responsibility is; searching and evaluating filtered product customer reviews for safety concerns, recording the data via software, reporting appropriate information to the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) and notifying customers, vendors and manufacturers regarding safety issues.  The third area of responsibility is to work with software engineers to create and analyze metrics and reports to measure the health of our safety processes. 

 

Areas of responsibility include

 

Coordinate all activities involved in Private Label product development to assure compliance with all federal and state regulatory requirements. This includes the development of Standard Regulatory Testing and Inspection procedures as well as the development and implementation of quality assurance and regulatory compliance strategies.  Other responsibilities include:

 

o Ensure proper documentation is presented before shipments are released in accordance with applicable federal and state laws, statutes and regulations

o Lead the design of monitoring programs to ensure social compliance.

o Identify and report general compliance issues that may arise through the work process; write and revise standard operating procedures.

o Review technical publications, articles and abstracts to stay abreast of current regulations and trends, ensure appropriate actions are taken and communicated to all parties involved when necessary.

o Work in conjunction with the Amazon.com Legal, Transportation and Product Compliance teams to ensure the most up to date compliance with all US governed regulatory agencies is met (US Customs, CSPC, FDA, Etc.)

o Schedule, monitor and audit all testing requirements & factory inspections from our agents and 3rd party inspectors.

o Develop testing criteria for specific product categories ranging from Prop 65 Lead testing to Accelerated Weathering Simulation testing.

o Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.



Qualified candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in business, engineering or quality assurance, and 5+ years of experience in product quality and/or regulatory compliance management with government agencies (FTC, CPSC, FDA).Previous work experience in a fast paced, changing/growing organization. Knowledge/experience directly related to product quality testing processes and evaluation.  Knowledge/experience directly related to regulatory compliance.  Familiarity with typical software packages (Microsoft Suite including Access) is a must Project management and solid communication skills are also a must. Experience with C++ in a Unix environment is a plus.
