Product Manager

Specialty Laboratories, founded in 1975, is a full-service, clinical reference laboratory focused on partnering with hospitals to support their role in community-based medicine and to reduce costs for episodes of care. Following their recently completed merger with AmeriPath, Inc., Specialty remains a distinct operating division and their 200,000 sq ft, state-of-the-art facility in Valencia, California has become the Esoteric Testing Division Headquarters for the newly combined organization. Specialty will continue to provide cutting-edge research and development of new assays as well as refinement of existing diagnostic tests to produce assays with greater sensitivity, specificity, efficiency and clinical value for reliable and cost-effective patient assessment.

 

We currently have an excellent career opportunity available for an individual who will be responsible for product management and marketing communications for selected strategic test(s)/product(s) and programs offered by Specialty Laboratories.  The person will be accountable for developing strategic marketing plans and the tactical execution against those plans to achieve test volume and financial objectives.  The Product Manager functions include the following:



Business Planning

 

Develop plan that will meet established criteria of driving profitable revenue growth, reducing costs and/or creating differentiation for Specialty Laboratories.  For the market segment & purchasing behavior, identify our organizational capabilities that are aligned with the size of the opportunity and the Marketing Plan; understand and deliver on customers? needs; evaluate, create and execute effective marketing tools; develop budgets/forecasts in support of the plans; monitor and utilize feedback & tracking mechanisms and respond accordingly.

 

Analyze and interpret business data and utilize the information appropriately to maintain and grow the business and anticipate new opportunities.  Understand the customer requirements through all available means including data analysis and utilization of both primary and secondary market research.



Marketing Management

 

Execution of Marketing Plan. Collaborate with cross-functional areas in the execution of programs and implementation. Develop specific marketing programs and materials including marketing collateral, presentations, tradeshows, advertisements, proformas, brochures, publications, and training programs. 

 

Market Intelligence/Competitive Analysis

 

Understand and utilize market data, trends, customer attitudes and behaviors, and the competitive landscape to maximize current & future opportunities and for market planning and decision-making.

Work with Market Research to better understand the needs of physicians and internal customers.

Understand the complete competitive landscape through all means including data collection, analysis and conclusions from a combination of primary and secondary research, tradeshow information,

Sales/ customer input, etc.

 

Requirements

 

The qualified candidate will be a motivated, independent, hands on professional, with exceptional technical verbal and writing skills including the ability to take scientific, medical and technical data and communicate it in a clear and articulate manner to both technical and non technical readers. Excellent presentation skills are a must.  Some travel required.  MBA or equivalent necessary. Must have 8-10 years experience in the reference laboratory industry, including extensive experience in hospital outreach and new product launches.
