Product Manager- Emerging Products Group

Overview:

 

As a key member of the Emerging Market Products team, the candidate will lead the definition, development, and delivery of our next generation system software for Palm's leading line of smartphone products and future product lines. He/she will research end-user needs, develop requirements and product definition documents, identify strategic partners, and work across all functional groups and levels of management in the company. The ideal candidate will balance business savvy with a strong technical understanding to deliver a world-class, innovative solution to the market.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

 

?  Drive next generation system software in support of Palm?s multiple product lines

?  Create product definition documents and work with Engineering, Product Marketing, Sales, and Support to establish and prioritize product functionality

?  Take lead responsibility for decisions with regards to feature/timeline tradeoffs, user interface decisions, and all other product related issues

?  Develop and communicate a robust system software roadmap by evaluating end-user needs, developer and carrier requirements, competitive solutions, and strategic technologies

?  Work closely with Developer Technical Support to understand and support the needs of the third-party developer community

?  Identify new business opportunities and strategic partners by working with business development teams

?  Develop solid understanding of GSM/CDMA, WiFi, and other radio technologies

 

Skills/Experience:

 

?  Experience with an open operating system (Palm OS, Windows Mobile, Linux)

 

?  Current telephony experience and in-depth knowledge of GSM, CDMA, and other telephony standards

?  Experience defining and shipping phone-based products and/or software applications

?  Demonstrable expertise in application/user interface design

?  Excellent written and verbal communication skills

?  Outstanding team skills-- able to motivate and drive teams

?  Balanced technical knowledge and business savvy

?  Minimum of five years of experience in consumer-focused software development and product management

?  Wireless industry experience with a handset manufacturer, handset/wireless applications developer, or other wireless applications development

 

Travel:

 

?  Amount of travel involved is around 10%

 

 

Education:

 

?  Bachelor's degree with a technical discipline is required; M.B.A. desired
