Product Manager - Mobile Device Solutions

iAnywhere Solutions, a Sybase, Inc. company, provides software that is used by mobile device OEM/ODMs to enrich their product?s features.  The Mobile Device Solutions group of iAnywhere delivers to OEM and ODMs embedded software and a customizable desktop synchronization solution.  The Mobile Device Solutions group is currently looking to fill the following position:

 

MOBILE DEVICE SOLUTIONS PRODUCT MANAGER - SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

 

Purpose of the Position:

Provides hands-on technical leadership requiring specialized expertise, creativity, initiative, and sound business and technical judgment to manage the Mobile Device Solutions product lines and marketing programs.  These product lines encompass embedded software (currently focused on the Bluetooth, IrDA, Ultra-wideband, and Open Mobile Alliance wireless protocols) and OEM desktop synchronization.  Produces marketing strategies, coordinates relationships with development groups, and develops/manages appropriate external relationships to maximize product line revenues.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Candidate must demonstrate expertise with either embedded software, wireless communications protocols, or synchronization technologies. 


- Works with Product Managers and other marketing staff on product introduction, press releases, road shows and other related activities. Develops marketing plans, product positioning, slide presentation and press releases. Develop and coordinate appropriate joint field activities.
- Establishes comprehensive market research and analysis plans.; monitors development of future products. Where appropriate, assures appropriate support for world-wide field organizations.
- Translates market requirements into prioritized product functionality requirements and specification. Works with engineering and product development teams to specify functional enhancements to product, release planning and schedules, acceptance tests and benchmarking. Manages progress and coordinates development of product enhancements.
- Promotes and markets products through effective communication of technical and non-technical product features to meet varying business needs.
- Serves as liaison on specific projects with departments, functional areas and/or customers. May serve as lead on various projects.
- Capable of developing the theoretical framework for a product component.
- Serves as lead on the design and implementation of platform-specific facilities to enable client/server computing.
- Provides leadership in the design of software systems specifications, input and output processes, coding and debugging.


Has at least 3 yrs of experience in product management of OEM software solutions.

Is capable of developing theoretical framework for a product component.
Strong leadership skills. Thorough knowledge of technologies and products with strong knowledge of wireless protocol software and synchronization technologies is highly desirable. Strong presentation and technical writing skills are required.

Must have worked on the full product life-cycle of design and implementation through customer shipment, ideally in a large team environment and on software products that are sold to OEM/ODM customers.  Experience in embedded software or OEM synchronization solutions is required.

Education and Related Experience:

BS/BSCS & 7-9 years or MS/MSCS & 6-8 years

Knowledge/Skills:

Business Administration, Computer Science or related field of knowledge plus minimum 10 years related experience in application development or software product development and/or marketing to include previous experience in a lead or supervisory capacity; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. An MBA is preferred.
