Quality Manager

Basic Function   Direct the quality assurance program for blow/injection molding operations of the assigned location(s).  Supervises the quality control technician and blow/injection molding operators in performance of duties relating to inspection, laboratory testing, statistical process control, and salvage operations.  Implement/maintain and modify as appropriate the plants quality management system to improves business operating systems and meet the requirements of ISO/QS 9001.  Lead/assist with the resolution of quality related problems at the plant and/or customer location and start-up of new products/processes.  Assist in trouble shooting of technical problems.

 Specific Duties 

 

  1. Design, implement and direct the quality assurance program for the assigned  location(s).

 

?  Establish/maintain quality program designed to the requirements for

ISO 9001, including but not limited to:

  -  Plant management responsibility

-  Document and data control

- Control of customer supplied materials and nonconforming product /

  material

-  Product identification and traceability

-  Inspecting/testing procedures and control of related equipment

-  Corrective and prevention actions

-  Internal quality audits

?  Establish/monitor/maintain statistical process control (SPC) programs.

? Advise and instructs local managers in the utilization of SPC data. 

Provide consistent ongoing analysis of process capability (CPK) statistics.  Determine/recommend/assist in continuous improvement programs to meet specific locations/division quality objective and advise the plant manager of  appropriate action plans.  Suggest improvements in procedures and techniques to improve product/customer acceptance.

 

?  Establish/monitor and control hold for inspection (HFI) procedures to ensure

  nonconforming materials do not enter the production process and are

  properly identified and segregated.

?  Coordinate quality activities with other division/plant personnel seeking

    mutual agreement on problems involving coordination.

 

2.  Supervise salaried/hourly personnel at the assigned location(s) responsible for the coordination and performance of the plants overall quality.

 

A. Inspection of incoming purchased materials, work-in-process materials, rework materials and finished goods.  Assure the required level of quality through visual inspection, statistical sampling, and laboratory testing of materials.  Ascertain the reasons for nonconforming materials.

 

B. Performance of operator/technicians tests ? section weights, wall thickness, dimensional characteristics, glue usage and patterns, banding tension, stretch wrap usage and load to force, etc?

 

C. Processing of all scrap materials including but not limited to bottle/preform salvage and regrind, corrugated salvage and other materials.

 

D. Design and implement accurate reporting and recording of scrap, reprocessed materials.  Control the movement of these materials.

 

E. Ascertain the disposition of materials placed on hold for inspection (HFI).

 

 

3.  Develop and implement continuous improvement plans for defect prevention programs by determining the cause of chronic defects.  Recommend and stimulate corrective action with plant personnel/staff managers by encouraging and atmosphere of continuous improvement and employee involvement programs.  Provide leadership in campaigning for quality improvements.

 

4.  Provide consistent ongoing analysis of defect costs/customer complaints in order to provide plant manager and division quality manager with appropriate actions.

 

5.  Serve as the representative of the assigned location(s) in dealing with customer complaints, quality problems and/or programs, and is responsible for all food safety related regulations and guidelines.  Travel as required to customer locations to ascertain the nature of problems and their impacts.  Appraise and coordinate the appropriate manufacturing/quality/technical support personnel of findings and recommended corrective action plans.  Follow-up to conclusion.

 

6.  Design / implement / coordinate training programs for managers / supervisors/ employees of the assigned location(s) to assure uniform quality standards are defined and expectations communicated.

  Reports to Plant Manager

 

Education Required:

 

Bachelors degree in technical discipline.

 

 

Experience Required:

 

Four (4) years related experience in quality assurance in a manufacturing

organization.  Proficiency in personnel computer skills (spreadsheet and word

processing software).
