Technical Product Manager—Defense Products

Leica Geosystems Geospatial Imaging provides a range of hardware and software that power the Geospatial Imaging Chain ? the definitive industry workflow of capturing, referencing, measuring, analyzing and presenting geospatial information. It functions as the Geospatial Imaging division of Leica Geosystems (Heerbrugg, Switzerland), a globally active surveying and geomatics group and longtime industry leader comprised of six customer-oriented divisions.

Leica Geosystems Geospatial Imaging builds products that are sold into the Defense markets. This includes general purpose geospatial imaging products (such as ERDAS IMAGINE) that are sold for both commercial and defense applications, and specialized defense-related products (such as Geospatial Light Table (GLT)).

 

Leica Geosystems Geospatial Imaging is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, with development sites in Atlanta, GA., Westford, Mass., USA and in Heerbrugg, Switzerland.

 


Basic Purpose:  As a Technical Product Manager, you will provide both product management and project management support for the design, development, and delivery of geospatial products for the defense markets. You must possess a unique blend of product design and technical skills, a big picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality.

 

You will lead a cross-functional team and manage the day-to-day operations of product development. You will need to work with market managers and key customers to understand business needs and market requirements, and package product requirements into a release; collaborate with other Technical Product Managers to ensure that defense requirements are well-represented in other applicable products; collaborate with software architects and engineers to develop release plans; manage changes to product scope; team with sales and marketing to define a go-to-market strategy; manage external partners, contractors and vendors that may be involved in the development and/or delivery of the product; coordinate the delivery of all project deliverables to schedule, budget and quality; and communicate with stakeholders on the overall status of product development.

 

You will serve as the primary product expert and evangelist for Defense products, both within the company, and with 3rd party distributors and customers, representing Defense products at trade-shows and with key customers.

 

 

 

Responsibilities:

Product Responsibilities:

-Lead product design, development and release process for assigned products and maintain the product roadmap.

-Coordinate the collection, description, analysis and prioritization of business and market requirements, and requests for new product functionality from market managers, customers and prospects.

-Collaborate with other Technical Product Managers to input defense product requirements to other products.

-Create detailed use cases and user stories to support the development process.

-Support engineering in the design and development of the product to ensure that it meets customer needs and expectations.

-Support marketing, sales, support and through leading the development and maintenance of various technical marketing collateral including application notes, FAQs, product notes, online marketing content and demos, sales tools, promotions and other marketing collateral.

-Develop in-depth knowledge of competitive products and maintain technical analysis of competitive strengths and weaknesses.

-Coordinate beta testing of new products and features.

-Coordinate the product launch.

-Perform product demonstrations at trade shows, online seminars, and other events.

 

 

Project Responsibilities:

-Coordinate the development of overall work plan with project stakeholders, including schedule, specific responsibilities of each party, deliverables, etc for the delivery of product to the market.

-Interact frequently with business, engineering and executive sponsors and keep them informed of project status and project issues.

-Ensure deliverables are consistent with product requirements and customer expectations.

-Manage changes to project scope and assesses impact of changes on resources, project schedule and cost.

-Provide a focal point for project problem resolution.

-Create timely and complete project reports for product team and executive management.

-Present project status and issues to management sponsors.

 

 

 

Requirements:

 

-BS/BA degree

-Minimum of 8 years related experience (3 in technical product management)

-Minimum of 3 years experience in enterprise applications, and or GIS, mapping and/or geospatial industries

-Must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information and will be subject to a government security investigation if necessary.

 Desired Knowledge/Skills:

-Proficiency in managing full lifecycle of multiple, large, complex technical projects.

-Experience in writing product requirements, use cases and user stories.

-Experience with cross-functional teams that include engineering, sales and marketing.

-Excellent organizational and time management skills.

-Ability to lead and coordinate competing interests to achieve desired objectives.

-Strong verbal and written communication skills.

-Strong meeting facilitation skills.

-Strong technical skills, including detailed understanding of current database technologies.
