Assistant Project Manager - Real Estate Development

Project Management Advisors Inc. (PMA) is a professional consulting firm that provides construction project management and other real estate services for commercial, institutional, residential, educational, municipal and private sector clients.  PMA operates from offices in Chicago (Corporate), San Diego, San Francisco and South San Francisco.  Our San Francisco office is currently seeking an Assistant Project Manager.

 

Job Responsibilities:

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the Project Manager to help exceed the expectations of the client.  The APM?s duties will include:

 

? Assistance with planning and analysis of conceptual design issues and preconstruction activities;

? Coordination and review of the development of architectural and engineering construction drawings and bid documents;

? Review, understand and enforce contractual requirements for design and construction professionals;

? Serve as liaison between client and design and construction professionals;

? Meet with contractors, architects, engineers and consultants to review the project status and resolve issues;  

? Review and analysis of potential changes to budget or schedule;

? Monitoring of construction budget and schedule including updating and maintaining web based project controls;  

? Understand the building permit process and support the design and construction professionals in securing the permit;

? Assemble and review material for draw packages;  

? Observe and report on construction process and construction related issues;

? Manage the project close out process to a successful completion;

? Prepare documentation for analysis and review of specific issues;

? Direct project meetings;

? Special projects as required;  

? Promote the highest level of professionalism and ethics.

Qualifications:

The position will require a person who can work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrates reliability, as well as good communication, organization and computer skills, maintains professionalism in the face of deadlines and can handle confidential information with discretion and trustworthiness.

 

This opportunity requires at minimum a Bachelor's degree in a related field such as Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning or Business Management.  A minimum of 2 years of related experience and a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of project controls, construction documentation and sequencing as well as a practical knowledge of alternate materials/methods, construction costs, value-engineering techniques and building/occupancy laws and lease requirements.  This position requires interaction with various professionals and clients.  Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as good negotiation and problem solving skills will be required.

 

The ideal candidate will meet all of the qualifications described herein and demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, Project) and web based project management tools.
