This position is based in Mountain View, CA.
Google is looking for individuals with enthusiasm, a drive to learn new technologies, and experience in both the business and technical realm to become Strategic Negotiators for the Global Infrastructure team.
The Global Infrastructure team is responsible for the strategy, acquisition, implementation, and maintenance of relationships with strategic suppliers and partners to expand and grow Google?s operational presence on a worldwide basis. This includes finding optimal solutions to Google?s ongoing needs for data center capacity; working closely with network carriers to obtain capacity for expansion and growth of both Google?s global backbone and Google?s voice capabilities; and meeting the operational sourcing requirements for new products, services, and initiatives prior to launch. By applying a unique blend of business and technology experience, our team works closely with both outside parties and internal teams to find creative, cost effective, and often unusual solutions to meet Google?s ongoing growth and expansion needs in North America and around the world.
The Strategic Negotiators are the individuals on the front lines finding creative solutions to problems, working with vendors, suppliers, and internal teams to meet Google?s expansion needs, and negotiating both the commercial terms and the legal contracts for products, services, and acquisitions on behalf of Google. These individuals embody a unique combination of business and technical sense, are professionals who are equally well versed calculating financial models on the fly at a dinner table or drawing creative technical solutions on a white board in a room with vendor representatives, who come to the table with existing knowledge and experience working with vendors, suppliers, and partners in their area of expertise.
The Site Selection Strategic Negotiators are individuals who are responsible for location, identification, selection, evaluation, and acquisition of Google?s next-generation data center sites worldwide. These individuals will be responsible for helping to identify locations and sites of interest, establishing contacts and building relationships with land owners, economic
development officials, power companies, telecommunications companies, and government officials to validate suitable sites for new facilities, to contract for appropriate building and/or land acquisition, economic incentives, and supply contracts for these sites, and working closely with the engineering and construction teams to ensure that sites meet all construction, development, and operational requirements. These negotiators are expected to travel extensively (50%) to visit both prospective and established sites and to build relationships with the local organizations.
Responsibilities:
Work with internal business and technical teams as well as senior management to identify and define new projects and initiatives necessary to meet Google's ongoing needs for both expansion and cost reduction.

Design solutions, negotiate commercial terms with suppliers, spearhead the legal contract review process, and ensure the proper delivery of services and/or solutions.
Manage the commercial relationship with key landowners, economic development and government officials, and suppliers; identify unique opportunities for partnership or expansion with these teams; and work with these teams to find mutually beneficial solutions to meeting Google?s requirements.
Continually learn and develop both commercial and technical understanding of multiple areas of expertise; become the expert on one or more technologies and/or commercial areas within the group and provide training to other team members.
Requirements:
At least 5 years experience with industrial location and site selection for high technology companies (data centers, semiconductor fabrication, call centers) or other industrial clients; experience with real estate acquisition, development, and construction, utility contracts, economic incentives, and other key aspects of site selection.
Familiarity with power transmission and distribution, telecommunications infrastructure, data center technology, industrial class electrical and cooling technology, and/or other related areas of technical expertise strongly desired.
A BS or BA degree from a top flight university; graduate-level education or equivalent experience preferred.
Strong analytical skills and problem solving skills; able to evaluate a situation quickly and accurately to determine the best strategy moving forward; a strong sense of both intelligence and intellect; an ability to juggle multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
Experience and knowledge working in both North America and international markets preferred.
An ability to learn new business and technical skills quickly, to adapt to changing environments, to be able to pick up new areas of expertise as Google?s needs and requirements evolve.
An outstanding outside the box thinker who can come up with creative solutions either commercial or technical in nature to meet or exceed technical, timeline, and cost requirements.
An individual with a strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communications skills, and an ability to work in an Internet-focused environment.
An individual who is comfortable working independently and thinking on the fly while still coordinating and synchronizing efforts with other members of the Global Infrastructure team and with internal customers within Google.
The highest standards of business ethics, discretion, and confidentiality are a must.
