Manager of Clinical Education Meetings and Events

The Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) is the world?s largest academic clinical-research organization. We combine the clinical expertise and academic leadership of a premier teaching hospital with the full-service operational capabilities of a major contract research organization.

 

We are currently seeking a Manager of Clinical Education Meetings and Events to provide meeting and event planning services for both internal clients (faculty, clinical trial project leaders and managers, as well as other Duke and DCRI groups) and external clients (including pharmaceutical, medical device, and biotech companies; and government agencies).  Our clinical educational activities include think-tank meetings, healthcare provider educational programs (symposia), expert advisory panels, industry education, and investigator meetings; as well as management and production of physician-to-physician Duke Clinical Medicine Series webcasts.  

 

The Manager of Clinical Education Meetings and Events will be responsible for coordinating and leading the work of the Events staff.  This person will direct and manage a variety of duties associated with executing clinical educational programs, meetings, and events, including contributing to the development of proposals and related budgets; supervising staff and vendors; and developing and implementing policies and procedures consistent with program objectives.  

 

In addition, this person will be required to:Determine fiscal requirements and develop grant proposals, including budgetary recommendations; manage and authorize expenditures of program funds for educational programs for health professionals and paraprofessionals or other objectives consistent with the program(s).Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, investigate trends, and recommend and implement modifications to improve program effectiveness.  Initiate and establish business relationships with all key stakeholders of the project (physicians, industry, sponsors, and other staff members), whether internal or external to the organization.  Meet with potential and existing clients to discuss new business opportunities and maintain ongoing client relationships.  Plan, develop, and implement goals and objectives of assigned clinical education programs in conjunction with the faculty members within the DCRI, DUMC, and other academic institutions.  Create and monitor schedules, issue logs, and risk management plans; resolve issues that could cause serious deviations or variations that might compromise project results.Act as liaison to other programs, offices, and departments at Duke to coordinate program business and to accomplish program objectives; interface with external organizations as appropriate to ensure cooperative efforts are enhanced and available resources are utilized.

 

Qualified candidates must have a bachelor?s degree in English, journalism, communications, or a related field, and 5 years of educational meeting and event planning experience, including several years of supervisory/management experience, or a minimum of eight years of experience. 

 

Certification by an accredited professional meeting and/or event planning organization (e.g., MPI?s CMP or CMM certification) desired, but not required.  Experience with clinical or medical meetings and events strongly desired.
