PROJECT FIELD OPERATIONS MANAGER

We welcome you to apply for the following position opportunity as a Project Field Operations Manager with the Boilers Business U.S. Region New Equipment group which is a P&L operation with a multi-product portfolio including fluidized bed, pulverized coal utility and industrial-size units as well as peripheral equipment. Our projects include those for which the Utility Boiler Business is the sole supplier as well as projects in consortium with multiple partners.
The Project Field Operations Manager is an office-based role with lead responsibility for planning and overseeing implementation of field construction and commissioning functions on assigned projects. Generally, the Project Field Operations Manager is assigned to a tender(s) and, upon contract award, is assigned as a member of the Project Manager?s project team with lead responsibility for the function through project close out. During the tender stage, this role provides construction and commissioning input to bid development on M&E sub-contracting strategy, bid-stage scheduling, manpower requirements/budgeting, and cost estimating. During contract execution, primary responsibilities include preparation of the Field Operations construction and commissioning project execution plan including project schedules and site manning plans; coordinating and integrating all construction and commissioning activities with the overall project execution plan; preparation of sub-contractor technical specifications and participation in the qualification / selection of sub-contractors and negotiation of terms & conditions in collaboration with Supply Chain Management; timely staffing of the site; monitoring of field execution, including sub-contractor performance, through project close out including warranty obligations; proactive identification of risks and opportunities, with recommended actions; management of the change order process on site sub-contracts; management of field-related project close-out actions; and pursuit of claims management actions as required. Accountable for strategies that enable safe construction and commissioning of reliable systems at the lowest commissioned cost considering cost, quality and on-time completion within the project performance goals. Role involves significant interface with field management, other internal functions, partners and sub-contractors.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:
Education: BS Degree in Engineering or Construction Management. MBA desirable.
Minimum of eight years of construction-related experience in a heavy industry long-cycle project execution business, preferably in the power generation. Specific experience must include planning and oversight of new equipment construction activities,
Cost estimating skills and aptitude required for preparation of sound "as sold" cost estimates for completing construction and commissioning including sub-contractor requirements.
Strong commercial orientation, with proven competency in the negotiation, establishment and management of sound sub-contractor contracts and in influencing effective risk and opportunity management strategies.
Excellent planning and organizational expertise, coupled with proactive management of functional responsibilities. Proficient understanding and management of project scheduling.
Effective communication and interface skills with collaborative team approach.
Strong computer application skills including MS Office (particularly Excel) and Primavera P3 scheduling software.
