Safeway, a Fortune 50 company, is looking for a product manager to provide expertise and leadership as it begins to rebuild its online presence.  Already a leader in the growing grocery delivery market, Safeway is committed to expanding its online services to create unique value propositions for its customers and further differentiate itself in the grocery and retail industries.  As with its successful ?Ingredients for Life? campaign and recently remodeled ?lifestyle? stores, Safeway looks to similarly invigorate its online presence and personalize its relationship with its customers.  With the vast amount of consumer information available via its Club Card program, Safeway is poised to provide services unique to both the online and retail industries.

 

The product manager will play a critical role in this effort by identifying consumer requirements and implementing a roadmap of features and enhancements that exceed customer expectations.  To be successful, this individual will need to work effectively across business units and with senior management.  Although technically not a user interface designer, the product manager will own the overall customer experience and must be well versed in web site design and usability.  Key metrics such as conversion, lapse and ultimately revenue will help define one?s success in this role.  Understanding Safeway?s customers and providing them compelling, easy to use features and services will be the product manager?s passion.

 Responsibilities:Create and maintain a strategic roadmap of site features and enhancements gathered from a number of sources including customers, competitors, business units, executives, and your own personal ideas.Prioritize and drive both long-term and short-term initiatives that deliver against the roadmap.Accountable for improving metrics such as revenue, conversion, and lapse rates.Justify the business case for new functionalities, create detailed requirements documents, and convey those requirements to development staff.Manage the online customer experience by ensuring all project implementations meet standards for usability and look and feel.Establish a deep understanding of Safeway?s customers and champion their needs in discussions and decisions.Monitor and report on competitors, industry trends, and evolving internet best practices.Evangelize the Safeway.com web site and related services both internally and externally.

 

Requirements:A passion for creating outstanding customer-focused web sites and services.Relevant experience managing the direction of a high-profile web presence.E-commerce experience is preferred.Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills and the ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.Ability to identify and empathize with the target customer.Understanding of web site design and its affect on user experience.Keen understanding of the strengths and limitations of current and emerging web technologies.Proven track record of successfully initiatives from concept to reality. An entrepreneurial drive and the ability to flourish in a fast-paced environment. Bachelors degree or equivalent a minimum, MBA a plus.
