The Project Manager provides business and technical leadership in leading major new or sustaining engineering product developments within budget, scope and schedule requirements. This Project Manager employs and supports best demonstrated practice project management tools and processes, and helps ensure consistent practices throughout all phases of the project life cycle.


This Project Manager also assists in the management of project portfolios, in terms of prioritization and resource leveling in concert with the functional groups in a matrix R&D environment, and is a champion and facilitator of Baxter Product Development Process (PDP) and Project Management Methodologies (PMM).


PROJECT PERFORMANCE

Recruits qualified team members, establishes roles and responsibilities, and provides guidance for team members in close collaboration with their direct supervisor.
Provides clear direction on product development requirements to meet expectations of external customers and business stakeholders. Ensures that the development team achieves stated goals.
Interacts through program updates and reviews with all levels of management, including formal Stage Gate Reviews with the Project Assessment Committee (PAC).
Develops and drives planning and execution of development programs by establishing and controlling development strategy, schedules, budgets, and financial analysis.
Maintains direct involvement with R&D, Marketing, Manufacturing, and Regulatory organizations at Baxter and with external stakeholders. Executes effective management of dual line reporting relationships in a matrixed organization.
Works closely with the appropriate R&D Program Manager/Director to ensure projects are in line with business needs for budget, scope and timing.
Supports project evaluations and recommends changes, continuation, or termination as appropriate




RISK MANAGEMENT

Makes day-to-day decisions regarding actions and project priorities to meet project deliverables.
Responsible for making recommendations on appropriate courses of action when there is potential for substantial program impact.




ADMINISTRATION

Develops and administers team incentive programs
Recommends, implements, and manages the appropriate program structure and standard performance metrics throughout all phases for various programs.
Contributes to the creation and maintenance of historical databases and formal design history files, for the purpose of tracking, trending, learning, and improving decisions regarding program performance and continuance.
Promotes and ensures compliance with Baxter Product Development Practices (PDP) and Project Management Methodologies (PMM).
Ensures compliance with applicable QSR's and SOP's.
Maximizes business results through continuous improvement in organization's ability to execute programs and projects from initiation to completion and production scale-up.



FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

Provides financial analysis and estimates of project expenses, resource requirements and capital as necessary in preparing budgets and in justifying project initiation and progression through subsequent project stages.
Tracks and controls project expenditures to stay within budget

Eliminates or minimizes barriers to progress
Anticipate potential conflict situations for proactive solutions
Manage conflict situations to result in win-win outcomes


Qualifications
1) Must possess strong technical aptitude, problem-solving, and project management skills.


2) Must have a good general business acumen and communication skills, including the ability to negotiate for resources and influence others internally and externally.


3) Minimum Education: BS degree in related technical discipline such as mechanical, biomedical, electrical, software or chemical engineering.


4) Advanced degree preferred.


5) Minimum Experience: 10 or more years of product development experience, including 5+ years project management


6) Desired: PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification
