Senior Technical Project Manager, Operations

The Amazon.com Operations Project Management Team is seeking a Senior Technical Project Manager to organize and deliver cross-functional projects with a focus on extending the software and processes that power Amazon’s world class supply chain and fulfillment capabilities. The Senior TPM will develop business requirements and functional specifications for these projects and coordinate the technical development effort and operational implementation process. The Senior TPM should be able to credibly coordinate between teams of technical resources and business stakeholders and have a thorough command of the technology/systems/processes that will be utilized in achieving project objectives. The Senior TPM will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints.

 

The right candidate will possess a solid foundation in enterprise-class, service-oriented software and a keen ability to understand technical interdependencies in complex, multi-tiered systems. These skills will allow the Senior TPM to recommend alternative technical designs and business approaches, reach consensus on technical decisions, and ensure that appropriate software engineering practices are employed to deliver extensible and high quality results. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills and ability to influence, analytical abilities, and leadership are essential and critical to success in this role. The Senior TPM should not only be passionate about delivering extensible, on-time solutions, but should also be obsessed with contributing to the development of high-performance teams through rigorous goal-setting, disciplined attention to performance metrics, continuous process improvement, and mutual support and mentorship.

 

Key Responsibilities: Manage the delivery of multiple cross-functional projects on time and on budget Author functional and technical requirements, detailed project plans, test plans, and implementation plans Provide post-launch follow up to assure business objectives have been met and any outstanding technical issues resolved Work closely with internal technical resources to develop comprehensive technical designs Create and execute appropriate test plans and strategies Provide routine status reporting on project milestones and deliverables, while escalating as appropriate Contribute meaningfully towards improving overall project team efficiency

A record of successful delivery of complex enterprise-scale technical projects as both an individual and a team leader An entrepreneurial spirit with a strong sense of ownership Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment Deep technical background in Object Oriented principals and languages, relational database fundamentals, web service protocols in a UNIX environment and hands-on enterprise architecture experience. Excellent written and oral communication A BS or MS degree in Computer Science along with 5+ years of relevant experience is required. An MBA is strongly desired.
