Prentice Hall's Engineer, Science and Math Publishing division has an opening for a Science Acquisitions Editor. The Acquisition Editor acquires, develops and oversees production of new and revised book titles in Marketing/Economics. Acquisition editors seek out prospective authors through travel and attending conferences. Evaluates publishing proposals and manuscripts. Estimates demands for proposed projects based on market and customer trends. Negotiates contracts with potential authors. Develops projects with newly signed authors and arranges for revision of existing titles. Creates financial projects for growth and profitability of future series acquisitions. Identifies and recommends new projects in specified areas. Acts as author's advocate and contact for rest of the publishing house. Develops publication plan for each project, summarizing content of material, identifying potential markets and outlining financial plans including costs, suggested price and number of copies. Guides projects through departments for all phases of production, including editing, design, formatting and manufacturing. Ensures products are within budget. Works closely with marketing, sales and production departments to launch products. Obtains input for sales and marketing regarding market opportunity.

Must have prior sales experience in college textbook market. 2+ years of editorial experience in science- related publishing. Excellent written and verbal communication. Bachelor's degree preferred.
