Andrews McMeel Universal is looking for a greeting card illustrator to join our funny and talented
Product Development team.  This position is responsible for consistently producing and directing
the creation of a wide range of innovative, market-appropriate, high-quality commercial illustrations
for greeting cards, gift products and Special Markets projects.

 

Responsibilities

1. Illustrates or generates original designs for all products and projects including but not limited
to greeting cards, special markets novelty projects, and various types of support materials.

2. Collaborates with the creative team to conceptualize appropriate designs for each greeting
card, product, or packaging idea.

3. Ensures that all design details are correct and complete including templates, design specs,
digital file preparation, barcodes, copyright information and placement, routings, and client
approvals.

4. Assigns projects to appropriate freelance designers and illustrators as necessary, brings
results to review meeting, facilitates changes, communicates the results to the freelancer,
and arranges for invoices and payment.

5. Communicates with associates to establish and meet a schedule that allows work to be
developed, approved, and released in time to meet desired sales dates.

6. Assists in the development of creative presentations to current or potential clients and partners.

 

Requirements

1. Ability to create original illustrations, fresh, appropriate graphic designs, or innovative product
and packaging formats.

2. Successful history of working effectively as part of a team.

3. Excellent communication skills ? written and oral.

4. Proven ability to handle several design projects at once under tight deadlines and to meet
or beat deadlines at all times.

5. Proven proficiency in QuarkXpress, Photoshop. Illustrator and/or Painter are a plus.

6. Demonstrated understanding of what makes an idea marketable.

7. Excellent ability to organize and prioritize projects that meet all customer needs.
