Assistant Technical Writer

Cummins-Allison is a worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of high-speed coin and currency processing equipment.

Duties:
This position, reporting to the manager of technical writing, supports our Technical Writing Staff, necessitated by an increase in newly released equipment of a complex nature. The selected candidate will assist in collection of information and technical drawings from various departments that are developing new products, such as Research and Development, Engineering (Mechanical and Electronic Design), Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, and National Field Service.

The selected applicant will also participate in learning the production, assembly, repair techniques, and operational controls of all new products developed. Much of this data gathering is of a 'hands-on' nature, requiring basic mechanical skills and understanding.

This position will help to develop complete repair instructions for Cummins Field Service Engineers and Domestic & International Distributors, which include: diagnostic procedures, disassembly and assembly, adjustments, test points, complete parts listing, recommended spare parts, preventive maintenance procedures, installation procedures, machine setup procedures, communications port protocols, safety precautions and warranties.

Qualifications:
The selected candidate must be able to write manuals in a form and style that conforms to the form and style that has been established by the company. Applicants must be skilled with Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and Adobe Illustrator. An excellent command of the English language is essential, with other languages a plus, as are graphic arts and digital photography skills.

To be selected, you must demonstrate skill in converting technical terms, words, instructions and procedures into a concise, easy to read format. The position will occasionally require you to write Field Service Bulletins, procedures and manual updates when changes or corrections occur.

To achieve the above tasks, you must be well organized so as to keep all published service documentation up to date, while simultaneously managing several new projects in various stages of completion.

To be considered for this position you must have as a minimum an Associate or Bachelors Degree with an emphasis on Technical Communication, or a certificate of completion from an accredited Technical Communication program.
