Associate Editor, North Light Craft Books

F+W Publications is seeking an Associate Editor for its North Light Craft book titles.

 

The Associate Editor creates and delivers inspiring craft books, fulfilling the development, content edit and production edit on five to seven titles per year, working closely with the Managing Editor to complete these tasks.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Work with acquisition editor, author and designer to develop a clear plan for the book. Have a firm understanding of audience, sales revenues, trends, etc. Select projects for the book and provide feedback to authors.Supervise step-by-step photo shoot and serve as a host/hostess to authors.Organize material from photo shoot and send to author as reference. Outline for author what text needs to be written..Coordinate art, text and captions to provide an instructional book that flows logically and matches the content.Edit text for clarity and space.Write additional text as needed.Create a thumbnail of the book to determine the placement of material.Secure freelancers for copyediting, proofreading, and indexing each book, input changes and process invoices.Organize and label artwork.Communicate with production to ensure proper preparations for printer.Keep abreast of Craft trends and products by other publishers.

 

Skills and Education:The successful candidate will have writing, editing and word processing experience.Ability to organize both verbal and visual materials. Ability to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines.Communicates well with external and internal customers.Bachelor's degree in related field. Knowledge of  InDesign  and Mac operating systems preferred.Candidate with knitting experience preferred.
