Director, Print Production

Harbor Freight Tools is a fast growing, well established retail company opening stores across the United States.  We are seeking a Director of Print Production to join our team in Oxnard, CA.  This position is responsible for overseeing the layout, design, and production of print materials, including catalogs, inserts, flyers, posters as well as product packaging.  Duties include developing and managing complex workflow systems and processes; translating marketing and merchandising ideas into advertising campaigns; maintaining files throughout the pre-press process; implementing changes; executing pre-flight procedures; creating final PDF's; reviewing proofs; identifying and resolving systems, process and workflow issues; and developing new process and workflow solutions to address the growth of production volume.  Managerial duties include day-to-day supervision and performance management of a department of 19 employees including scheduling and prioritizing work in process; job tracking; departmental performance reporting; quality control; people management ? conflict resolution, reviews, training and development, etc.,  and collaborative communications with other departments within the company.

 

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 5 years experience in publication and advertising design and production preferably within a catalog, mail order or high volume printing environment with 2 ? 4 years of management experience.  A thorough understanding of process flow and design is required.  Understanding of production and pre-press operations of 4-color printing process and the ability to create files correctly for press is essential. Must have knowledge of digital-print processes and experience with database publishing systems.  Must be proficient using Macintosh and have a solid understanding of graphic design software used in graphics production.
