Thomson West is actively seeking a Manuscript Editor to join their Content Operations Group in Cleveland, Ohio.
This position is the entry-level position for Editors. It begins as a training position that requires extensive supervision & training. Initially, others set the individual?s priorities until the employee has developed the process knowledge required to set his/her own priorities. The individual will participate in a cross-functional Publishing Operations team, and be responsible for publishing legal and regulatory products in print and/or electronic form. All work will be checked until competent process knowledge is developed. To advance, the employee must have consistently performed all functions at the next level.
MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY : (approximate percentages)
1.75% - Production Functions: Performs editorial, production, technical and administrative duties as copy reading manuscript and analyzing electronic files, keying/merging text and data, table preparation, data coding/tagging, etc. and supports team publishing goals by meeting deadlines.
2.15% - Quality Control And Verification: Verification of own work for accuracy and completeness.
3.10% - Development of individual and team skills: Attending and participating in team meetings, learning to prioritize own work, participating in employee evaluation process (both peer reviews & self-evaluation).
REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma is required. Completion of a BA, BS is desired. Applicant must possess excellent reading ability and strong English skills, including vocabulary, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure. Must be skilled in the use of personal computers and have familiarity with multiple software packages, including word processing and file management. The ability to prioritize and stay focused while dealing with multiple assignments is required.Previous publishing experience is a plus. Experience in copy reading and familiarity with legal terminology and court, legislative, and regulatory levels are desirable.
This position requires a detail-oriented individual with an aptitude for problem solving on an individualized level and within the context of a team environment. This individual will demonstrate the ability to successfully work in a team environment.
Normal office hours and environments, constant reading and exposure to personal computers, extra hours may be required to meet deadlines.

? Competent in knowledge and application of processes for which employee was hired. Achieves local pub center standards in quantity and quality.

? Competent with West Product Scheduling Systems (i.e., PSS, SAP).
