We seek an editorial publications specialist who will support the production, distribution and Content Management of XML-based products and the development and integration of XML workflows for Platts’ News and Pricing, Marketing, Conferences, Analytical, Web and Fulfillment groups.  The Editorial Publication Specialist position will work with authors and product owners to develop and implement standards of content structure, accuracy and metadata for Platts product consistent with the print, electronic and content management needs of Platts and BIG.  This position will manage the movement of content through the publication process and serve as the primary point of contact with the publishing technology group for product owners and authors.

 

Principal Accountabilities:Work with authors and product owners to develop and implement workflows for the print and electronic publication of Platts’ products.Maintain the production schedule for all Platts product though the Publishing Technology Production group to ensure that delivery deadlines are accurately established and met.Check incoming manuscripts for correct document structure, correct application of formatting styles, clarity and accuracy.Serve as Managing Editor for Platts Insight magazine.Verify permissions of all photographic and art submissions to Publishing Technology group to ensure legal compliance with all fair-use and copyright restrictions.Prepare all incoming manuscripts and art for automated XML-conversion.Receive, schedule and route external advertising for quality check prior to distribution to Web and Editorial Production groups. Work with advertisers to help them meet technical ad specifications.Participate in ongoing quality control, correction and delivery of Platts XML product including the distribution of XML content to approved 3rd party customers, other end users and designated corporate content management systems.Assist in the development of descriptive metadata XML standards.Participate in the evaluation and testing of XML authoring tools and work with other team members to integrate these tools into efficient production workflows.Develop strong relationships with Analytics, Marketing, Editorial and other internal customers to enable the development of workflows best suited to these customers’ needs.Assist with the development of and train users in the iCPS-compliant use of MS Word and QuarkXpress templates.Assist with the training of production staff in the use of XML authoring tools.Monitor and maintain the hardware and software used by Platts automated web-publishing and content management systems.Assist in the documentation of Publishing Technology processes.

Bachelor's degree, Journalism preferred.Minimum 2 years editing experience, copywriting a plus.Strong understanding of electronic publishing and related technology.Strong team management skills and organizational skillsStrong computer skills.  Expert-level proficiency in MSWord required, specifically must be able to apply styles.Ability to maintain and update Excel spreadsheets and Access database for scheduling purposes.Ability to work well with people and work diplomatically with high level managers and external customers.Understanding of Platts products and services a plus.
