Executive Design Manager/Reading Language Arts

Job Description: Houghton Mifflin Company, one of America's leading publishers of textbooks, Educational software, fiction, nonfiction and reference works has an Executive Design Manager position available in the School Division. The Executive Design Manager is responsible for the instructional design development, product planning, conceptualization, and project management for new and innovative Houghton Mifflin educational programs. Will  direct the design and art program of complete K-6 elementary programs. Will demonstrate knowledge of current publishing technology and applicable software and expertise in all areas of visual communication and is skilled in current management practices. This individual develops program procedural and process guidelines, develops and monitors program budgets and schedules and provides project design direction. As a senior member of the Art and Design Department, this individual is responsible for the presentation of design solutions to members of divisional management teams, hiring and development of departmental design teams, and is also responsible for disseminating sound knowledge of publishing, manufacturing, and market positioning within the Art and Design Department. As a senior member of an integrated management team, the executive design manager works cooperatively to insure the completion of projects on time and on budget and of the highest quality of design. Works closely with Research, Marketing, Production, and Editorial, directs product planning, conceptualization, and project management for all School Division Products. The incumbent directs and coordinates the design and art program development of new products, recruits, trains and directs design and image resources personnel, works collaboratively with design and image resource management to create and integrate art and photography programs, establishes and monitors contracts, budgets, pricing guidelines, and schedules for all aspects of product development activity.

Job Requirements:
A Masters degree in Graphic Design or 12 + years of professional experience are required.
