In-House Proofreader

Fast growing Manhattan-based directory publisher is looking for a detail-oriented freelance proofreader with experience in publishing. Proofreader will be responsible for ensuring that all assignments are completed with attention to detail and in a timely manner.

Requirements:
- Knowledge of English spelling and grammatical rules.
- Ability to follow instructions efficiently and consistently.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work on several different tasks with same deadline, ability to move quickly from one task to another.
- Ability to work long hours and retain efficiency.
- Familiarity with proofreading marks.
- Knowledge of graphic software a plus (Quark, Illustrator, PhotoShop).
- Writing and copyediting skills and experience a plus.

Duties:
- Correct a variety of display ads, galleys, contracts and listings in a high pressure, high volume work environment requiring some long hours, late nights and weekends.
- Maintain accuracy and consistency of proof to source file.
- Fact check.
- Correct for style, formatting, and typographical errors.
- Ensure that any errors, spelling, incorrect information, or discrepancies from original are remedied properly.

Candidate must be willing to work on an hourly basis as an in-house employee, with some late nights and weekends. This position is a permanent position.
