Senior Technical Writer

We are currently seeking a Senior Technical Writer in support of Electronic Publishing located in north central New Jersey, approximately 30 miles from Newark. This position is a minimum 6-month contract with a possibility of an extension through February 2008.  

 

Qualified candidates will meet the following requirements:

 

DUTIES:

The Electronic Publishing Senior Technical Writer (STW) is responsible for processing of engineering information to produce technical operator and maintenance manuals for electronic generation to PDF, HTML, or CD and publication.  The STW performs the preparation and editing of technical publications using established procedures and guidelines, to specific style sheets and templates.  The STW may be given overall responsibility for the concept, presentation of written material and illustrations for the publication.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:Associate Degree, Bachelor Degree preferred in related field.

Minimum 5 years experience in technical operator or maintenance manuals writing and editing.

Experience in military technical operator and maintenance manual publishing preferred.

Through understanding of the electronic publishing process

Required: Experience in FrameMaker + SGML

Preferred: EPIC, xMetal. SiberSafe experience a definite plus.

Working knowledge of XML, HTML, SGML and XSLT document formatting.

Process oriented ability to manage time and deliverables to a production schedule, be proactive in working with subject matter experts and engineers in determining technical manual content, organization, and presentation.

 

 

The STW must has comprehensive knowledge of grammar, writing, editing, and publishing processes and working knowledge of electronic publishing concepts, practices, standards, and technologies. The STW may supervise and conduct validation and verification of manuals in shop or field environments with the subject matter engineers.
