Sr Production Project Mgr

Description: Wolters Kluwer Health, a global leader in providing information for health and medical professionals and students, is seeking a Sr. Production Project Manager for our Professional and Education Textbook Development Department to implement strategy and ensure products are developed to meet customer needs and market standards. This position is located in Philadelphia PA., and reports to the Director of Medical Production.


A Sr. Production Project Manager oversees production of book and electronic products handled by outside full-service production vendors. Responsible for on-time and on-budget delivery of products and multi projects.
Specific responsibilities are as follows:
o Schedules and conducts launch meetings for new projects;
o Works with Editorial staff to determine appropriate production path
o Prepares materials (text, art, design specifications, etc.) and guidelines for full-service and/or electronic product vendor, may include
o Meetings with vendor to formally launch project
o Determines scheduling requirements for project and provides scheduling
o Guidelines for full-service vendor (e.g., dates materials will be submitted, time required for author/editor review, date materials must be
o Submitted to printer); monitors production schedule and reports status of projects.
o Obtains and reviews full-service cost quotation;
o Monitors production budget and costs; review and approves invoices.
o Reviews proofs as required to ensure LWW quality standards are met (specific to individual projects), which may include sample copyediting, page proofs, cover proofs, printer proofs, beta versions of electronic products.
o Trouble shoots production problems (e.g., length issues, art issues, excessive author alterations, cost issues)
o Serves as liaison between outside vendor and LWW staff, including editorial, marketing, art & design, and manufacturing and software development staffs.
o Responsible for providing project materials as needed to LWW staff, such as sample pages for promotional brochures or XML-tagged files for use in development of spin-off product.

Other Duties:

o Attend all meetings related to assigned projects. Meeting with prepress & print vendors when appropriate. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:
o Education: Bachelor's degree or higher
o Experience: At least 5 years' experience in the editorial production of books and electronic products, preferably in the health sciences arena. Experience working directly with authors and outside vendors
Other Knowledge, Skills, Abilities or Certifications:
o Thorough knowledge of the book production and manufacturing processes.
o Excellent organization and communication skills.
o Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of and experience with word applications and spreadsheet software, such as MS Word and Excel.
o Knowledge of book and electronic product cost structures is desired. Ability to develop and communicate clear, concise instructions and guidelines. Must be a self-starter.
