Responsibilities of the position:

Staff writers work a 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. shift.

Until 12:30 p.m., staff members are on a very tight deadline while composing the day's news stories; afternoons are less intense. Writers are members of a small but dynamic team and maintain the daily responsibilities below.

? Conducting online and paper-based searches of specialty and general-interest publications;

? Writing short summaries of the day's news stories  ;

? Proofing the day's document;

? Entering stories into our online publishing tool; and

? Writing one column per month, completing all interviews and research necessary.

The ideal candidate will possess:

? Superior strength in written communication, with an emphasis on extremely sharp and concise writing;

? Ability to thrive under intense daily deadline pressure and be highly efficient;

? Acute "news sense," as demonstrated through the ability to clip pertinent articles and to quickly identify and summarize an article?s main point;

? Demonstrated critical thinking and analytic reasoning.
