The VP/Publisher of the Computing Technologies & Information Systems Strategic Business Unit(CTIS SBU) will develop vision, set the strategy and implement business plans that will maximize the business unit?s financial and non-financial results.DescriptionMISSION STATEMENT:

Develops vision, sets the strategy and implements business plans that will maximize the business unit?s financial and non-financial results. Leads and manages the implementation and achievement of customer/market focused business plans through team activities that include market analysis, new product development, channel expansion, technology strategies, and effective resource allocation. This will include leveraging current content to maximize business potential and building alliances and partnerships to generate new opportunities. Promotes and fosters individual and team development to create a winning environment that rewards and recognizes high performance and accountabilities.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Leads team by facilitating the design, implementation, management and communication of a customer/market focused strategic business plan (business and marketing plans) for the team?s assigned content areas.

Leads by example in holding self accountable for achieving established goals and holding team members accountable for delivering on their responsibilities. Focuses on ?getting it done,? and meeting commitments.

Works with Sales management team to develop and implement sales plans that reflect a high degree of understanding of customers? workflows and their needs in order to maximize sales opportunities.

Initiates, negotiates, and leads development of profitable strategic alliances and partnerships.

Manages financial planning implementation, including P&L, ROI, OI, and budgeting for the team.

Works in partnership with other senior management to plan and implement initiatives that lead to organic business growth. Helps to identify and assess potential acquisitions to expand assigned strategic business unit; and, looks for opportunities to grow business overall.

Identifies, assesses, negotiates, closes, and integrates potential acquisitions to expand assigned strategic business unit.

Develops capacity plan, capital expenditures, and allocations, and makes recommendations and presentations to Executive Leadership Team for such resources.

Globalizes business by initiating and working with team to develop network within Thomson Learning, international agents and contacts to support team goals and mission.

Maximizes the effectiveness of team members through effective selection, training, coaching, counseling, goal translation, appraisal, and rewards and recognition systems management.

Recognizes and identifies training needs within team and facilitates training programs by coordination and cooperation with Human Resources staff, Coaches and other resources.

Contributes skills and expertise to training programs in other teams and in like responsibilities across teams; facilitates cross-training within and outside of team.

Oversees signing of new products consistent with corporate and team goals.

Based on team recommendations, finalizes all initial print run/pricing, reprint, write-off decisions within allocated budgets.

Creates, maintains, and reinforces a working environment that supports CPG?s core values while facilitating the High Performance Team processes.

Performs other duties as needed to ensure achievement of team goals.

QualificationsBA/BS degree. Advanced degree, such as an MBA, desirable.

Minimum of 4-6 years managerial experience.

Minimum of 4-6 years of editorial/product development creation experience.

Strong business acumen.

Proven track record of results.

Strong leadership, entrepreneurial, contract negotiation, facilitation, and communication skills.

Experience working within complex organizational environments requiring professional maturity, political awareness and overall savvy in dealing with business situations.

Ability to do extensive overnight travel.
