Assistant Director of Materials Management

Huntington Hospital is a 525-bed non-profit, community-focused regional Medical Center and the only hospital in the San Gabriel Valley with a Level II Trauma and a Regional NICU. We have an excellent opportunity available for an Assistant Director of Materials Management.

 

Acting as a resource to the materials management department, you will report to the Director and plan, administer and direct the materials management program to ensure optimal service levels of goods, supplies, services and equipment to meet all hospital requirements. Develop and establish relevant policies and procedures, conduct periodic audits, and manage internal and external relationships, demonstrating strong customer service to all departments.

 

Responsibilities include optimizing departmental operations by directly supervising the OR purchasing staff, buyers and inventory control buyers, and chairing the value analysis team to ensure that the supplier sourcing selection process for goods and services is followed. This includes utilizing standardized request for RFIs, RFPs and bid process, in compliance with Huntington Hospital's policies and procedures. It is critical that you develop and maintain a comprehensive contract management program by establishing a portfolio of master contract for products, equipment and services and provide competitive prices for all categories. Other duties include conducting audits on the materials management staff for the accuracy of sourcing the correct contracts and pricing in the Meditech materials management systems, and overseeing all capital equipment purchases for cost savings and utilizing of all group purchasing contracts.

 

Successful candidates will be able to establish and maintain appropriate relationships with vendors and related organizations; coordinating and directing contacts with GPOs; and communicating effectively with all user groups - medical staff, employees, and management - regarding their needs for materials support and explain usage and cost containment.

 

Developing written polices and procedures to provide quality materials support for Huntington Hospital, and providing timely utilization reports to management and end users are an important part of the job. The Human Resources component of your work includes the hiring, training, development, evaluation and counseling of materials management staff. Above all you must support the Hospital's mission to improve the health of the communities we serve.

 

Ideally you will have a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience, with 7 years of materials management experience (preferably in a hospital setting) and 3+ years of supervisory in a supervisory capacity. Proficiency in MS Office software, and excellent written/verbal communication skills are essential.
