Buyer Position

Harbor Freight Tools is a fast growing, well established retail company opening stores across the United States.  We are seeking a Buyer to join our team in Oxnard, CA.  This position is responsible for identifying tools and related products that could be top sellers, selecting suppliers and managing the purchasing, packaging and advertising for them.  You will work with suppliers from around the world to start new products, execute successful launches, and manage ongoing production and cost reduction programs.  The position will require 2 to 2 ? months of travel per year.

 

Specific responsibilities will include:

Vendor/supplier sourcing for tools and related products, and day-to-day relationship management; includes communication with suppliers regarding contract negotiations (e.g. pricing, payment terms, volume discounts, delivery, etc.), PO processing, refurbished / return product management, merchandising, MDF/Co-op negotiation and coordination, etc.

Maintaining vendor information and profiles in our internal systems

Analyzing and monitoring sales records, trends and economic conditions to anticipate consumer buying patterns and determining sales and inventory levels

Defining product strategies and participating in bringing new products to market

Understanding the industry and competition from a product and positioning perspective; monitoring, reacting to and setting trends

Developing profitable product category assortment

Processing and tracking purchase orders

Setting product pricing through margin analysis and competitive market research

Producing tangible results in maximizing sales and profits while developing new product categories

Working closely with inventory management team to insure proper inventory levels and efficient product transitions

 

Experience / Skills should include:

Minimum of 5 years of relevant and progressive buying experience in tools or hard-line consumer goods within e-commerce, retail or distribution industries; manufacturing background is a plus

Experience in a senior product management, purchasing or sales role with a demonstrated ability to drive product implementation and strategy

Experience with a fast-paced, high volume, efficient organization with emphasis on customer service and delivering results

Experience in B2C companies with major distribution and overseas operations would be highly desirable

Ability to research products and trends and analyze products and product specifications in supplier proposals

Considerable attention to detail and sense of urgency to ensure value-added content in the purchasing process and confidence in the continuity of supply

Sourcing merchandise through new and existing vendors, trips and tradeshows

Ability to initiate sales plans and forecasts, generate and analyze sales reports and data

Must be proficient with computers and automated process and systems
