POSITION PURPOSE

Under minimal supervision, performs purchasing activities, including purchasing a wide variety of standard or custom components (ASICs). Excellent communication skills required.
II. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Demonstrates steady, reliable competence in complex situations requiring independent judgment.

2. Uses developed purchasing skills to a very high degree to analyze requisitions, direct and/ evaluate price quotations to select the best sources.

3. Responsible for identifying and assisting in the qualification of new suppliers.

4. Deals effectively with all levels of company and vendor personnel in implementing purchasing objectives.

5.Responsible for communicating requirements, issuing and maintaining purchase orders, tracking supplier work in process, expediting assigned components, and reconciling invoicing and receiving discrepancies.

6. Must have a good working knowledge of all aspects of the Materials organization and their interaction, not limited to simply a buying function.

7. Special projects are required.

8. May provide work leadership and / or training to lower level Buyers and administrative personnel.

9. Ensures fair and equitable treatment of all employees by complying with company Affirmative Action goals, programs and policies.

10. Performs related and other duties as required.


III. NATURE AND SCOPE

The Senior Buyer works under minimal supervision and is responsible for the procurement and strategic management of integrated circuits including both standard and custom (ASICs). Emphasis is placed on negotiations, PO issuance and maintenance, supplier work in process tracking, and lead-time monitoring.

 Required Skills

Bachelor's degree in business, materials, purchasing, or related field, or the equivalent in training and experience, and a minimum of 6 years related experience.

Incumbent should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and negotiation skills. Must have a working knowledge of all aspects of the Materials organization as well as purchasing policies, procedures and terminology.
Competency with Microsoft Office Applications and Material Requirements Planning systems is also required.
