Director of Purchasing

Hartung Glass Industries is a premier manufacturer, fabricator, and distributor of flat glass products.Hartung has  been a leader in the glass industry for over 80 years.  We are headquartered in Tukwila, WA and have 9 branches throughout the Western United States and Canada.In addition, our "sister" company, Oregon Glass, is based in Wilsonville, OR.  Together we have over 750 employees and over $100 million in yearly sales.

 

We are currently looking for a Director of Purchasing to oversee our enterprise procurement, supply chain and inventory control operations.

 

Responsibilities will include:

 Plan, organize, direct, and control activities related to the procurement function. Design programs to optimize overall supply chain performance.  Areas of responsibility include glass supply, Asian importing, freight, inventory control and backorder reduction. Organize, supervise, and direct the work of the storeroom and central supply personnel engaged in receiving, issuing, and delivering supplies and equipment. Prepare instructions regarding purchasing systems and procedures. Analyze market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability, and prepare market analysis report. Develop a system to evaluate vendor quotations that utilize appropriate negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery, and service. Design, implement,manage, and monitor procurement reporting systems to meet company requirements.  Provides leadership in defining requirements and accomplishing implementation as related to IT upgrades/conversions. Recruit and maintain suppliers that provide high quality products and services at a better price while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct. Prepare and issue purchase orders and change notices. Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy. Prepare and reviewing contracts, bids, proposals, and vendor agreements for legal correctness, price, and acceptability of items to specifications. Oversee all activities related to procurement of commodity, from intent to purchase through delivery of commodity. Negotiate the complex requests for equipment, supplies, and services from suppliers and sub contractors. Develop and installing clerical and office procedures and practices, and study work flow, sequence of operations, and office arrangement to determine expediency of installing new or improved office machines.

 

Qualifications include:

 4 year college degree, or two to four years related experience and/or training. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Attention to detail.
