Derecktor Shipyards has three yard locations: Mamaroneck, New York just 25 miles north of Manhattan.??Dania, Florida on a 17-acre waterfront property, less than one mile from the Port Everglades entrance via the Dania Cut-off Canal, and our newest facility in Bridgeport, Connecticut on a 23-acre site facing deep water with easy access from the Long Island Sound.?

Currently we are seeking to fill several openings at our yard located in Bridgeport, Connecticut.? Derecktor Shipyard Connecticut is a new construction and repair facility involved in Yacht, Commercial and Government craft.?

Purpose of Classification:

Develops and manages purchasing policies and activities for three shipyards located in CT, NY and FL with an annual purchasing budget in excess of $30M.? Supervise buyers, support staff, receiving and warehouse personnel at the three shipyards. Work with other buyers, accounting department, and warehouse personnel.? Coordinates activities involved with procuring goods and services such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies.? Coordinate annual inventories.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

Purchasing Manager has responsibility for supervising the professional and support staff of the Purchasing Department in the acquisition, receiving and warehousing of materials needed for the ongoing projects either new construction or service & repair which typically require negotiation of comprehensive contracts that have a far-reaching impact.? Marine and Material Handling experience will be needed to successfully carry on all the aspects of this position.

???????? Prepare Terms & Conditions for purchasing contracts as required by each contract.

????????? Supervises the activities of subordinates.? Serves as a purchasing specialist.

????????? Conducts special surveys of purchasing needs for new construction, and service projects to obtain favorable discounts.

????????? Purchases equipment and/or services requiring extensive technical knowledge of sources of supplies, interpretation of specifications and viable substitutions.

????????? Serves as a chairperson for vendor conferences and conducts vendor site inspections.

????????? Recommends the award of contracts and serves as contract administrator for assigned commodity areas.

????????? Work with engineering on pricing for new bids and help create Bill of Materials.

????????? Oversee all inventory control, reports, and shortages. Determine appropriate inventory levels.

????????? Reviews requisitions.

????????? Confers with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.

????????? Establish acceptable terms and credit with vendors.

????????? Establish and approved company vendor list that is constantly updated.

????????? Selects products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items.

????????? Estimates values according to knowledge of market price.

????????? Determines method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid.

????????? Prepares purchase orders or bid requests.

????????? Support Estimating in gathering material pricing and information.

????????? Reviews bid proposals, and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.

????????? Maintains manual or computerized procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.

????????? Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.

????????? May approve invoices for payment. May expedite delivery of goods to users.

????????? Research new materials, new sources and determine the following:

????????? Maintain and constantly update catalogue and vendor files.

????????? Attend production/service meetings, with necessary information on pending orders.

????????? Three quotes should be obtained for all new construction jobs.? Our goal is to save 10% or more on material.

????????? Set up standard subcontractor contracts/agreements.

????????? Insure that accounting procedures for purchasing are being followed

????????? Review and update open PO list for new construction jobs before completed.
