Mechanical Buyer

The Mechanical Buyer will obtain quotes for mechanical and related items identified by staff or through the ERP system, negotiate pricing, and place purchase orders.  In addition to placing orders, the buyer will be responsible for negotiating rework or returns, and manage all open order deliveries.  This position reports to the Materials Manager. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

? Procure raw material, machined parts, castings, molded plastics, hardware, outside processing and various other components as needed.

? Negotiate best pricing at all times.

? Monitor deliveries at all times.

? Coordinate and expedite suppliers as necessary to support production schedules.

? Provide general administrative support within the Purchasing Department.

? Timely placement of requirements.

? Adherence to Purchasing Procedures and Government Regulations.

? Document source and produce price justification for purchase orders.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education:

? Bachelor's degree or, in lieu of degree, an additional 2+ years materials/purchasing experience.

 

Experience:

? 2-4 years purchasing experience required.  (Without a bachelor?s degree, 4-6 years experience required.)

? Experience in the areas of raw material procurement; casting and machining procurement; plastic injected molding procurement, outside processing; and close tolerance machine parts sourcing.

? Experience should encompass purchasing assignments of complex nature including processing requisitions, product research, long-term contract negotiation and implementation of cost saving projects.

? Successful management of assigned supplier cost, quality and delivery performance.

 

Skills:

? Must be able to read and understand blueprints and specifications.

? Excellent PC skills and working knowledge of ERP / MRP systems.

? Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
