ODM Senior Buyer

Scientific Atlanta is applying a half-century of innovations to today's convergence of the PC and the TV and helping to extend multimedia broadband applications to new platforms via interactive broadband networks, set-tops and cable modems.  We are currently seeking an ODM Senior Buyer at our Lawrenceville, GA location.

 

ODM SENIOR BUYER

This position manages the supply chain and logistics of S-A products produced with S-A?s Original Design Manufacturing (ODM) and Contract Manufacturing (CM) partners to ensure cost effective and timely introduction of S-A?s outsourced products. 

 

To achieve the above goal, this position must have a clear understanding of the manufacturing markets, cost factors, customer objectives, as well as general market factors which affect both long term competitiveness for both S-A and our manufacturing partners. 

 

Such factors include:Understand functional and technical aspects of finished products and markets, common manufacturing methods for producing the products, and important political/economic/social aspects where the ODM or CM vendors are located.  Communicate forecasts to ODM/CM and key raw material vendors.Coordinate new product releases among S-A Engineering, Marketing, and ODM/CM vendor.  Create and issue purchase orders and forecasts per corporate guidelines for product as needed.Coordinate and prioritize production schedules at CM and ODM vendors to ensure the correct quantity/mix of products are delivered to meet customer demand while supporting S-A?s inventory management goals.Work effectively within SAP to update information related to purchase orders, materials, and vendor files.Utilize the most appropriate methods of inbound transportation and provide product tracking from factory shipment until delivery to S-A designated locations.Support reverse logistics processes for RMA returns and rework.

 

LEVEL CHARACTERISTICS

 

COMMUNICATION:

This position requires frequent and close communication with external ODM and CM vendors and occasionally with raw material vendors.  These vendors will typically be located in Asia where barriers to communication may often include language, cultural, and time zone differences that must be overcome.  This position also requires constant communication with all relevant internal functional organizations such as Engineering, Marketing, Finance, Procurement, Accounting, Customer Service, Legal, Quality, and Manufacturing.  This position must be versatile in dealing with these diverse groups and must be navigate with all levels of internal and external organizations.

 

INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT:

This position must understand S-A?s goals, processes, systems, and organization and utilize this knowledge to make independent decisions.  This position uses critical thinking to analyze and develop sound solutions which affect business operations during nights, weekends, or periods of travel without immediate outside guidance.  This position will face competing or conflicting goals among different organizations or from outside vendors and must be able to manage these conflicts to ensure that S-A?s goals are met within corporate guidelines and procedures.

 

ANALYSIS/PROBLEM SOLVING:

This position will require a significant application of analytical and problem solving skills.  Position will often be called upon to revise production plans, negotiate delivery schedules, and coordinate design efforts to accommodate new market constraints and opportunities.  Position will be regularly involved in supply & demand analysis and must be able to develop and implement plans related to this analysis.  Position must be able to develop sound analysis and effective decision making during stressful moments.  Position should have enough confidence in its analysis to present at high levels of the organization.

 

IMPACT:

This position has significant impact on Procurement, the Business Units whose products are affected, and Scientific Atlanta as a whole.  The products managed by this individual and team will be significant relative to the overall spend of S-A.  The person in this position possesses the integrity and negotiation skills to manage vendors of high value contracts and orders.  They must have the knowledge and breadth of experience to deal with diverse groups and personalities to ensure that these key relationships support S-A?s corporate goals and objectives as well as individual product and market strategies. 

 

Minimum Requirements:3 years in a manufacturing purchasing function3 years of inventory management3 years production planning

 

Minimum Required Education:Bachelor?s Degree

 

Preferred Experience:

Specific experience working with Asian ODMs or Contract Mfgrs. Purchasing experience with high volume, Multinational Corporations from Computer or Electronics Industry

 

Work Related Travel:15%
