Responsibility:
Develop effective metals contract administration assigned by immediate supervisor. Complete metals contract negotiations assigned by immediate supervisor. Improve supplier performance. Initiate and complete cost reduction projects. Implement inventory cost management and JIT system. Implement standardization and simplification of assigned commodities. Sourcing and development of new suppliers. Quality improvement. Timely completion of projects. Develop strategy to achieve annual purchasing goals established by the VP of Purchasing.

Specific duties include:
? Plan and carry out activities within jurisdiction to insure prompt placement, expediting, and coordination of projects and securing of quotes for requirements in the quantities, quality and lead time required.
? Review all projects as received for description of materials and urgency of need.
? Adequately communicate and report status of pending critical projects or requirements to insure full awareness of Purchasing Management, requisitioners and approvers of any delay that might affect their smooth operation of orderly planning.
? Keep informed on cost, price trends, lead times, shortages, introduction of new replacement products, materials or services which will result in minimizing costs of purchased items.
? Initiate and consult with representatives of other departments on matters relative to purchasing and development of standardized specifications to insure that the most common generic terms are used to define and specify requirements so that they can be quoted in a competitive atmosphere. Ensuring Panduit is protected legally and has no financial obligation for materials not per specification.
? Maintain favorable supplier, customer user relationships consistent with Purchasing policy of establishing long-term supplier relationships, efficient, friendly, working relationship and effective team leader, player skills.
? Process request for quotes and invitations to bid. Reviewing the quotations with suppliers and verifying they are accurate, complete and competitive.
? Perform spreadsheet analysis, cost analysis, and comparison.
? Submit all necessary information (in a neat orderly format) to insure the timely completion of projects, supplier evaluations, supplier database, and all other necessary data required by Purchasing procedures as requested by immediate supervisor.
? Ensure successful completion of major product development teams through project management activities.
? Supports engineering and product management with new metal product launches, product improvements and changes, and product rationalization.REQUIREMENTS? BS and/or BA or CPM Modules 1 and 4, plus four years metals purchasing experience. A technical degree may be required.
? Strong verbal and written communication skills.
? Along with good people, leadership, and teamwork skills, buyers must possess a technical understanding of the commodities they buy.
? Strong knowledge of both the technology and market drivers that face the commodity and the associate suppliers and demonstrate competency in continuously improving supplier performance by producing cost through contracted suppliers.
? Ability to work with a wide range of personalities in a high task workload, project oriented environment.
? Capable of meeting project and task due dates.
? Basic math including algebra, statistical analysis.
? Ability to organize projects and delegate duties.
? Solid PC word processing and spreadsheet skills.
? Oracle experience preferred.
