Purchasing Rep - Power Plant

Job Description:
In this role you will provide hands-on Purchasing support and expertise for all of the Delaware City Power Plant/Gasifier. This consists of two major elements: the Gasification Unit (Coke Gasifier, Air Separation Unit, and Combustion Turbines) and the original Power Plant (boilers, steam turbogenerators, water plant). Safe, reliable operation of this asset is critical to the Refinery's efficient operation. You will create new ways to perform duties in the department to reduce time. Provide alternate solutions for the department in resolving invoice errors. Issue requests for quotations that request a lump sum firm price quotation prior to issuing a purchase order existing approved contractors. To be knowledgeable in all areas of purchasing affecting Valero and to act as liaison between all departments regarding goods and services required. Function as SAP Purchasing Super User, creating and maintaining SAP Vendor Master, Info Records, Contractor Rate Sheets and Source List Data files. Provide to co-workers alternative solutions in completing requirements that facilitate project completion and support cost reduction efforts. Negotiate with suppliers for reductions in price for commodities used by the Maintenance Department and requests invoices to be itemized. Recommend to Operations Supervisors new chemical suppliers to reduce the operating cost of the units by bidding and negotiation of prices. Work with Accounts Payable personnel to resolve invoice variances.


Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred. Minimum three years of related purchasing experience required. Work experience relating to accounting, maintenance, costs, laboratory, and production preferred. Ability to work closely with others, such as Accounting, Maintenance, Engineering, etc. Tact and courtesy in dealing with outside vendors. Experience in the maintenance and/or chemical areas of the plant preferred. Knowledge of computers and be able to use a PC and MS operating programs. Basic course in purchasing, if available, or various courses offered by AMA regarding various aspects of purchasing: such as Purchasing for the New Buyer; Purchasing Negotiations, etc. required.
