Job Description
Major Responsibilities:
-Solicit commercial offerings and contracts for the purchase of goods and services.
-Implements supply chain management strategies.
-Functions as a member of a local team and extended teams throughout the organization.
-Seeks solutions to minimize routine purchase transactions.
-Participates in supplier development and supplier alliance initiatives.
-Facilitates early supplier involvement on projects.
-Plays a critical role in cost management. Prepares analysis and plans for negotiations involving assigned commodities.
-Ability to effectively apply analytical tools, concepts and methods. Serves as a resource to customers relative to procurement/contract activities and needs.
-Will train and gain knowledge for self-development in all facets of business skills, processes and procurement applications.
-Maintain detailed records of transactions that are in compliance with guidelines, audit requirements and good business practices.
-Maintain competencies in supply chain strategies.
-Perform work assignments productively without incident or injury.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
-Five (5) years of purchasing experience.
**Technical Competencies:
-Knowledge of Phelps Dodge Mining Company's organization, policies and procedures.
-Knowledge of sources of supply, markets and price trends, and the various grades and qualities of a wide variety of mining materials, supplies, and equipment.
-Knowledge of office management/administrative support practices and procedures.
-Knowledge of purchasing rules, regulations, methods and forms.
-Knowledge of the purchase order and accounts payable processes.
-Knowledge of public relations/customer service principles, practices and techniques.
-Knowledge of basic accounting, budgeting or business practices and methods.
-Knowledge of a variety of computer software, including word processing, database and spreadsheet applications.
-Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
-Skill in researching and gathering information related to vendors, contractors, equipment and supplies.
-Skill in negotiating and administering contracts.
-Skill in using computer databases to research, maintain, update records and files.
-Skill in handling and prioritizing multiple projects.
-Skill in preparing and maintaining accurate records, reports, and files.
-Skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
-Skill in communicating effectively, orally and in writing.
-Skill in utilizing public relations techniques in responding to inquiries and complaints.
-Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, management, and the general public.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
-Work is performed primarily in an office setting and, occasionally, in an outdoor or plant environment. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, reach, demonstrate manual dexterity, talk, hear and see. The incumbent may occasionally be required to lift light to moderately heavy objects (up to 25 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. Individual may also be required to operate a Company vehicle on Company business.
The incumbent will be required to wear personal protective equipment as required to perform his/her duties: hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety foot wear and other PPE as determined to protect the individual.

Preferred Qualifications :
- C.P.M. Certification, Certified Purchasing Manager.
-Experience in an MRO, Maintenance Repair and Operating Purchasing environment.
-Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of PDSIs 60-Cent plan and KPIs.
Criteria/Conditions(specific background and skills) :
*Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.
*While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see.
*Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) during the course of the workday.
*Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety foot wear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and other protective equipment as required.
