Senior Buyer

Excellent Company, Open Due to Promotion!

 

Our client has recently promoted their Senior Buyer to their corporate office and they need to replace her.  The plant is commutable to Madison, West Milwaukee and Janesville.  This position is responsible for purchasing commodities at the lowest total cost consistent with considerations of quality, reliability of source and urgency of need.  The company relies upon domestic and international sources.  There will be little or no supervision.  Our client describes the assignments as broad and complex in nature and requiring technical expertise, ingenuity and independent evaluation.  They are looking for an aggressive, career driven purchasing professional.

 

Examples of commodities: control panels, relays, wire assembly, castings, plastic components, wheels, rubber components, metal stampings and vibrations mounts.

 

Requirements:

1. Bachelor?s Degree in Business or related field and at least 7 years commodities purchasing experience for a manufacturing company.  Prefer people out of a high volume ? fast paced organizations that sells to big box retail stores

2.  Strong preference for both domestic and international purchasing experience, especially China.  In absence of this experience, a candidate will have to demonstrate his or her drive to become a purchasing expert such as work on an MBA, certifications or assumption of major purchasing duties.

3.  Comprehensive knowledge of purchasing function concepts and of supplier commodity processes and practices

4. Posses highly developed written and verbal communication skills for report writing, presentations and interactions with diverse groups of people inside and outside of the corporation

5. Demonstrated proficiency with PC software (word processing, spreadsheets

 

Duties:

1. Address both domestic and international sourcing needs.  This will include analyzing quotations using broad purchasing principles, concepts and practices for cost / price and value analyses to select, recommend or develop alternative suppliers

2. Check / approve purchase requisitions and/or payment invoices; direct preparation of and follow-up on orders to expedite delivery/shipment as required; obtain certifications of delivery and verify against purchase orders

3. Assist with supplier training for relevant processes, procedures and/or methodology

4. Develop and maintain necessary records of purchase, price, stock and consumption, supplier/vendor specifications and catalog files

5. Conduct market and material studies; research and evaluate benefits of contract or open-market purchases and/or benefits of out-sourcing

6. Negotiate, write and verify legal issues of supply agreements

7. Evaluate and arrange for disposal of scrap, obsolete and/or surplus materials

8. Recommend and implement changes in processes or procedures in area of specialization

 

The company offers a comprehensive benefits package and a bonus program based on company profits, which has averaged 6% the last several years.  For a very capable candidate the company will cover normal relation expenses.
