JOB TITLE: Senior Buyer ? Offshore

 

DEPARTMENT: Purchasing

 

REPORTS TO: Director, Purchasing

 

BASIC PURPOSE/SCOPE

 

Responsible for source selection and procurement functions directly associated with the company?s needs for direct materials and services, fixed assets and tooling, and select production materials and services, primarily located off-shore. These products and services are to be secured at cost quality, and delivery competitive levels consistent with Company policy and performance standards. The position is further responsible for the timely planning, scheduling of receipt and inventory control of the products and services as assigned.

 

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Purchasing: Manages strategic and day-to-day vendor relationships at all vendor staff levels, for assigned commodities/part numbers. Initiates purchase orders and amendments for parts, services, and/or special tools; arranges for submission and inspection of sample products as required; close coordination with engineering to assure timely execution of product and services sourcing activities.

 

Planning: Coordinates the planning of recent schedules and inventory control parameters for the assigned products and services consistent with MAPICS requirements or as arranged with requisitioners. Issues regular forecasts to vendors.

 

Portfolio Roadmapping and New Product Introduction: Partners with Product Management peers to maintain a current and profitable purchase portfolio for each vendor, as well as to fully leverage company negotiations. Maintains reference new product roadmaps from assigned vendor base. Supports the introduction of new products and SKU?s based on Product Management portfolio roadmaps.

 

Sourcing: Interviews and confers with current and prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities both on and off-shore. Secures and analyzes quotations; negotiates prices and terms with suppliers including lead times, and warranty; and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities. Works closely procurement team peers to advance enterprise-wide sourcing programs as appropriate and limit vendor proliferation where possible.

 

DIMENSIONS

 

Manages an expenditure base of up to $30 million per year for materials and/or services to support the company?s purchasing programs.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

Bachelor?s degree preferred with emphasis in business administration, economics, and/or engineering with (7+) years of progressively responsible purchasing and materials control experience in an automotive components, motorcycle, recreational vehicle or closely related industrial segment Experienced in relevant commodity sourcing (with up to date contacts) and effective management of off-shore vendors. Technical undergraduate or MBA a plus.

 

Personal computer skills, mainframe operations as relates to procurement, related software, and knowledge of purchasing/accounting processes required (MS office, JD Edwards or equivalent ERP platform). Must have excellent negotiation, verbal and written communications skill sets.
