Senior Buyer / Planner

Primary Function

Responsible for purchasing and negotiating raw materials, services, equipment and commodity items from vendors. Plans, schedules and monitors the movement of materials through the production cycle. Works with new product development in determining materials requirements. Strives for continuous improvement in such matters as cost, quality, on- time delivery and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

Must possess technical and administrative procurement and planning knowledge; be able to read and understand technical drawings and translate into product applications.

BS or BA degree, in purchasing, business or technical, and/or 10 years experience in the field of purchasing, buying and materials planning.

Must be able to negotiate supplier prices, quality levels and lead times.

Must have working knowledge of MRP and capacity planning.

Contributes and represents organization to the completion of organizational projects and goals.

Cross-functional effectiveness. Must work closely with all departments in the planning process.

Must possess good communication skills with internal and external contacts.

Able to work independently. Exercises latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.

Some travel required.

CPM/APICS certification preferred.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Procures raw materials, services and commodity items.

2. Requests quotes from suppliers perform supplier sourcing and evaluation.

3. Participates in QA supplier audits.

4. Negotiates complex contracts (to specified value) subject to management approval. Maximize business outcome for company through progressive supplier relationships that will provide a competitive advantage.

5. Have a lead role in development projects from material definition through sourcing and release to production.

6. Accurately determines the amount of materials needed.

7. Plans, schedules and monitors the movement of materials through the production cycle.

8. Establishes planning parameters associated with inventory levels, operating practices, production schedules, capacities, projects and new product development.

9. Adheres to appropriate operating procedures for business planning unit to ensure compliance with SOPs, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, CGMP procedures, MRB, and corrective action goals.

This is a manufacturing plant and we manufacture Protective Relays and Switches for the utility industry. Full time, 40 hour workweek, Exempt position, some travel.
