Foreclosure Specialist

Job Description:



NOVASTAR MORTGAGE, a leader in the mortgage industry, is looking for a talented individual to join our Foreclosure Team within the Servicing Division of NovaStar Mortgage, Inc. This ever-growing division services NovaStar's already 10 billion loan portfolio!





The Foreclosure Specialist will be responsible for the monitoring of loan files in foreclosure status through foreclosure sale or alternate resolution.

Responsibilities include:

Analyze and audit loans to verify financial sensibility of foreclosure, that sufficient attempts have been made to collect the debt and that all state required letters have been sent.

Determine and recommend what pursuit options NovaStar should take to protect our financial interest in the property.

Thorough documentation of all aspects of the foreclosure.

Referral of files to foreclosure attorney in a timely manner.

Develop and maintain a good business relationship with attorneys. Maintain close contact to ensure the proper and timely execution of the foreclosure.

Maintain communication with the Loss Mitigation specialist and attorney's office when loss mitigation is being considered on a file.

Maintain loan level templates to ensure the attorneys are acting as quickly as state statutes allow and that our reporting is as accurate as possible.

Maintain familiarity with all aspects of the foreclosure process including requirements specific to the states handled.

Maintain a working knowledge of the foreclosure workstation and all windows required to monitor loans in this status.

Maintain current understanding of the Policies and Procedures of the Foreclosure department and NovaStar.



Job Requirements:
Qualified candidates must have the following:

Minimum of 3 years of experience in the mortgage loan business with thorough knowledge of foreclosure process and terminology.

Work requires familiarity with a wide range of loan documents and an understanding of the loan origination process.

Must have a working knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

Good organizational and analytical skills a must.

Must be proficient in MS Word, Access, Outlook and Excel

Must be multi-task oriented with the ability to work quickly, accurately and with attention to detail in a high volume environment.

Must be able to analyze financial data and make a sound determination on viable options.

Must be a positive team member.

Strong negotiation, verbal and written communication skills.

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Some College is prefered.
