Wholesale Mortgage Underwriter

SUMMARY: Reviews and analyzes mortgage loan requests for compliance with company and investor requirements.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Reviews and evaluates loan packages submitted for approval.
- Analyzes credit files of applicants for approval or denial, reviews and makes decisions based on credit packages submitted by brokers/correspondents.
- Maintains good working relationships with appropriate contacts and proper turn-around time on all files.
- Signs off on Higher Limit loans, assists in training of new Underwriters, new Branch Managers, and Regional Vice Presidents, and assists underwriting supervisor and manager as needed.
- Insures approved loans meet investor requirements
- Supports Underwriting team and branches through effective communication relating to loan decisions, technical support, training, and interpretation of underwriting policy and procedures
- Reviews all loan file documentation for accuracy
 - Provides prompt, courteous service to all internal and external customers. Prioritizes and addresses customer needs and demands in a professional manner, providing follow-up and developing cooperative relationships.
- Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve customer service, work processes and financial performance. Assists in design and implementation of quality improvement initiatives on departmental and organizational levels.
- Assists team members in completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service.  Orient new co-workers and actively support team development.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION - Two years college or vocational school training in a professional, specialized or general field.  College degree preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE - At least five years of experience in mortgage lending with at least three years underwriting experience required.

 

SKILLS - Must be able to underwrite loans using established guidelines and make sound decisions based on judgment, experience, and the risk involved.
