Job Purpose

Although the Colorant Department is part of the Technical Service Department a lot of time is spent on the development of new colorants and colorant lines, most in support of customers, some as a marketing driven effort to enter new markets, or update existing products. We are looking for an all-round, hands-on application chemist who has a proven record of customer satisfaction and who is accustomed to driving his projects to completion and success.

 

Key Responsibilities

1.  Develop and support architectural and industrial colorants/colorant systems

2.  Provide color matching support

3.  Prepare customer reports and present to sales or directly to customers.

4.  Prepare professional sales aids

5.  Provide technical service in response to customer requests in a timely manner

6.  Work together with production facility in Jersey City as necessary.

7.  Provide guidance and technical know-how for R&D department 

8.  Some travel will be expected (10%-20%)

 

 

Knowledge/ Experience/ Skills required

 

? BS Chemistry or equivalent

? Preferred 5+ years of experience in making color dispersions.

? At least 7+ years experience in dispersions or coatings business.

? Work independently with some supervision while being results oriented.

? Sometimes people are switched temporarily between different technical departments so flexibility is a must.

? Good computer skills, with emphasis on Microsoft Office.

? Proven record of delivering results

 

 

Planning of work and how it is generated 

1) Most work is customer generated and falls in three main groups:

? Matching custom colors for existing colorant lines

? Perform compatibility testing for customers

? Add new pigments to existing colorant lines.

2) Some work is plant support. Most of that will be when introducing new products to the market. Sometimes it is to help production with particular problems.

3) And then some Internal projects: they are usually initiated by marketing or R&D and involve making new colorant lines, or evaluating potential new dispersants.

 

Interfaces / Working

Usually projects are worked on individually, on the rare occasion with two or more people.

? Hightstown is a place with many talented scientists, any one of whom can be approached for information.

? There will be customer interaction, mostly by phone or e-mail, sometimes face-to-face

? Individual relationships should be built up with our major suppliers.

? Responsibility for work delivered and amount of work completed is assumed right from the start.
