Associate Scientist R&D

As an Associate Scientist in the R&D Project Coordination Group, you will be expected to help coordinate and influence the efforts of multiple groups, as these groups move product candidates from research projects into process development and preclinical studies. This coordination will often be to assist projects under the authority of an Early Development Team, and while not a member of the EDT, you will nevertheless work closely and in collaboration with key team members. Additionally, you will be expected to show a high degree of initiative in identifying areas of inefficiency between groups and solving these coordination deficiencies.

 

Specific responsibilities will include the management of the non-clinical antibody supply and the bioanalytical reagent supply. This management will require you to identify problems as they arise in the current process of fermentation, purification, and formulation/vialing, and then work with the scientists involved to improve the entire process. This includes anticipating any roadblocks that would adversely affect the timeliness, quality or documentation/characterization of the non-clinical antibody and bioanalytical reagent supplies. 

 

Key functions will also include managing and coordinating technical improvement projects that span several organizational groups within Process Development and Research. In this role, you will need to organize meetings with the key scientists involved and set up the appropriate agenda. As the facilitator in the meeting, it will be your responsibility to achieve momentum and progression through the agenda, balanced with the appropriate pauses to foster discussion and decisions. You will need to provide clear synopses of critical opinions and recommendations from the Scientists and Engineers, and will need to capture any essential disagreement; if a decision cannot be reached in a timely fashion and needs to be deferred, you will need to coordinate the appropriate follow-up. Your summaries should make clear where potential problems exist, which items need to be addressed, and by whom.   Requirements:

 BA/BS degree in Protein Chemistry or Molecular Biology with at 8+ years of directly related experience, or an MS degree with directly related experience. High level of technical ability in mammalian cell culture and protein purification. Exemplary communication, leadership and influencing skills, coupled with the highest level of expertise in listening and running meetings.
