DIRECTOR, TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT

REPORTS TO:  CTO / SVP ENGINEERING

 

Over it?s 25 year history Southwall has been known for technology innovation for thin film coatings on flexible substrates for the electronic display, automotive glass, window film, and architectural glass markets worldwide.

 

As the Director of Technology Development in our R & D center in Palo Alto, you will take the lead to ensure that Southwall rapidly evolves from the current technology base and moves into new and enabling technologies that support the company?s new strategic direction.  As a highly creative, technically skilled, hands-on Director you will lead a group of senior, talented engineers and scientists, in technology incubation, evaluation, feasibility studies, optimization and scale up to deliver new technologies to manufacturing.  The ideal candidate will have a broad background in more than one area of micro-fabrication along with a track record of scaling up new technologies into volume manufacturing.

 

Summary of Main Duties:

 Provides technical leadership, innovation and a creative team environmentDevelops new technology from R& D through proof of feasibility, process optimization, pilot manufacturing equipment design, and full manufacturing scale up Transfers new technology to Southwall?s manufacturing plant in Germany.Acts as technical expert to internal manufacturing team as well as to equipment makers and subcontractorsEnsures development projects are managed to specification, cost, and schedule through effective project leadership Education, Skills, Prior Experience:

 History of innovation and creative problem solving as measured by successful technologies, inventions and/or products.Demonstrated success as a technical team and project manager and a successful track record of taking technologies from concept to manufacturing ready.BS, MS or PhD in Engineering, Physics or ChemistryMinimum of ten years industrial experience in developing new technologies and transferring technology to a manufacturing environment.Successful history of technology development in at least two technologies such as thin films,  optical technology, displays/LCD technology, MEMS, semiconductors, fine-line printing processes, or other technologies that require complex process integration.  Must posses a broad and deep technical background.
