Research Associate III

Nonprofit public health research organization seeks a full time Research Associate III (RA III) to work on our Newborn Screening Tandem Mass Spectrometry Project.  Under direct supervision, the incumbent will plan, organize, and conduct chemical research studies from moderate to complex scientific scope.  This position is based in Richmond, California.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:  Performs complex chemical analysis using tandem mass spectrometry instruments for newborn screening program; Performs statistical analysis for quality controls and patient medians to monitor the performance of MS/MS instruments; Analyzes laboratory data and prepares internal reports as directed;  Develops and maintains knowledge and skill related to specific tasks, methodologies, materials, tools, and laboratory equipment; Drafts operational protocols based on research studies and good laboratory practices; Serves as a team member on public health projects and investigations; Reviews and releases patient test results to be used for patient treatment and follow-up; Maintains computerized tracking system for the storage of blood spot specimens; Participates in the laboratory safety committee;  Performs other duties as assigned. 

 

Requirements:  Bachelor?s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology or a closely related field and 1 year of research experience in the field relative to the stated specialty or possession of master degree in the stated specialty or a closely related field. The ideal candidate must be able to communicate effectively in dealing with the public and other employees.
