Associate Meat Team Leader (Assistant Meat Department Manager)

The Associate Team Leader supervises all meat team operations and Team Members.  The responsibilities are many, varied, and directed toward upholding Whole Foods Market Core Values and the company?s goals.  This position is for individuals training to become a Meat Team Leader.

 

Will do the following principle duties and responsibilities:

1. Successfully complete Meat learning checklists. 

2. Perform all duties and responsibilities of Meat Team Member, Oven Ready Lead, Smokehouse Lead and Meat Cutter.

3. Arrive to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work; work all scheduled shifts and attend required trainings and meetings.

4. Provide excellent customer service and regularly practice and model suggestive selling techniques.

5. Practice courteous and proper etiquette when answering phones and pages.

6. Be aware of customer flow and needs and direct Team Members as necessary to satisfy and delight customers.

7. Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating and stocking product.

8. Comply with all applicable state health and safety codes.

9. Maintain clean and sanitary operating environment and ensure all sanitation requirements are consistently met and logs are being used daily.

11. Maintain team policy and operating standards.

12. Open and close department according to established procedures.

13. Complete spoilage, sampling, temperature and sweep worksheets as required.

14. Prepare specialty merchandise; cut sub primal meat cuts.

15. Support Buyers with ordering; maintaining appropriate back stock levels, processing invoices and returns and maintaining order log.

16. Oversee team and resolve difficult customer situations.

17. Assist with resolving team concerns and communicate concerns to the Team Leader.

18. Interview, select, and train qualified new members upon approval of the Team Leader.

19. Schedule Team Members to cover all duties and ensure they follow through with assigned responsibilities within set labor guidelines.

20. Evaluate and document Team Member work performance.

21. Attend regularly scheduled store operations meetings as necessary.

22. Help to achieve and exceed margin and sales targets.

23. Assist Team Leader in analysis of sales, reports and labor.

24. Record attendance and tardiness.  Communicate attendance issues or concerns to Team Leader and Store Leadership.

25. Support Team Leader in principle duties and responsibilities.

26. Function as point person in absence of Team Leader.

27. Support national, regional and store programs. 

28. Perform other duties as assigned by Team Leader, Store Leadership and Meat Coordinator(s).

 

Must have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

1. Knowledge, skills, and abilities of Team Member, Oven Ready Lead, Smokehouse Lead and Meat Cutter.

2. Minimum 1 year meat cutter experience or equivalent.

3. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary for good customer and team relations.

4. Excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.

5. Capable of teaching others in a constructive and positive manner.

6. Ability to sell proactively and communicate effectively with customers.

7. Comprehensive product and meat cut knowledge including cooking techniques. 

8. Demonstrated ability in knife handling and use of other cutting equipment.

9. Knowledge of living conditions of animals and the ability to educate the public on these issues.

10. Familiar with company purpose, policies, standards and merchandise.

11. Familiar with safety policies and procedures.

12. Analytical ability and proficiency in math.

13. Able to prioritize efficiently and delegate responsibilities.

14. Demonstrated decision-making ability, leadership skills and ability to prioritize.

15. Ability to perform physical requirements of position.

16. Ability to operate all necessary equipment.

17. 40 hour availability; able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays as required.
