Regional Specialty Foods Category Buyer

Job Summary

The Regional Category Buyer for Specialty foods is responsible for carrying out the purchasing functions designed to support National programs and Regional team, including pricing, promotions, order boards, inventory sheets, data management and maintenance and new item introductions. The scope of the department includes but is not limited to predominately cheese, wine, beer, coffee, tea, olives, and chocolate.  The Category Buyer will communicate effectively with Regional Specialty Team, National Purchasing Team, and Private Label team, offer constructive feedback, and effectively implement all programs. This is a full-time salaried position based in the North Atlantic office. or Northeast Regional Offices and supports the two Regional Directors and Merchandisers.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:
Accurately format promotional deals with pricing on a spreadsheet monthlyParticipate in scheduled Team Leader (Department Manager) meetings and callsDetermine promotional order amounts when necessarySend national deal numbers to national purchasing teamCommunicate promotional needs with vendors in a timely mannerData ManagementDrive and organize total clean up of Specialty CIX cost and retail files for all sub teams.Facilitate implementation of VIP for cheese pricing.Work with Regional Specialty and data management teams to ensure accuracy in maintenance and category management of specialty files.Manage, update and accurately maintain vendor order boards and regional inventory sheetsWork with CIX team members to proof promotional pricing and UPC codesWork to have ingredients included on all scale labelsProvide ongoing analysis on promo movement, quarterly margin from Top 100/200.Source and communicate new items to keep our product mix fresh/current. Be first to market with new/unique items Communicate potential ?crossover? new items with Directors of affected departments Complete all requisite new item/vendor paperwork Develop system for communicating new item info to storesCreate and send order boards to buyers and vendor community as needed and update PLU list.Manage and communicate cost fluctuation and suggested price adjustments for Regional Director sign off Communicate any credit information to accounting and stores as needed Communicate all price changes to stores in a timely mannerAdhere to all GIG (Handbook) and Regional Policies


Requirements:
Minimum two years natural products industry retail buying experience or purchasing background equivalentExtensive product knowledge Ability to effectively and accurately manage pricing and promotion strategy to deliver consistent value to the consumer and meet team financial goals.  Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Excel and Word and OutlookExcellent analytical, organization and prioritization skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExcellent negotiation skillsAbility to effectively support team and regional visionCommitment to accuracy and excellenceAbility to contribute to collaborative regional vision Proactive positive attitudeA team player
